Art Metal By Mark

Art Metal By Mark From my studio atop Tamborine Mountain, I transform repurposed cutlery into whimsical creatures, blending sustainability with intricate craftsmanship.

Inspired by origami and nature, each one-of-a-kind piece I create tells a story.

Rufus had been warned about stealing chips.

Several times, actually.

But Rufus maintains that if you leave your lunch unattended, that's not stealing β€” that's opportunity. πŸ˜‚

With his copper coat, fiery yellow and red eye, and absolutely no remorse, Rufus is now looking for somewhere new to perch.

Preferably somewhere within sight of the kitchen. 🐟🍟

Handmade from upcycled cutlery right here in my little corner of Queensland.

And yes... Rufus is available. Just don't turn your back on your lunch.

πŸ¦πŸ’™ Looks like another pelican has flown into the workshop!

This is Harbour, finished in a beautiful teal that gives him a fresh coastal feel. It's always amazing how a different colour can completely change the personality of a sculpture.

From a handful of old forks and spoons to a pelican with plenty of character... that's the fun part of what I do.

What do you thinkβ€”does Harbour remind you of the beach, the river, or somewhere else entirely? I'd love to hear where he'd feel most at home! 😊

Sometimes it's not the artwork that gets the upgrade... it's the workshop. πŸ› οΈβœ¨

After a bit of planning (and a bit of moving things around! πŸ˜‚), I've finally installed a new workbench and sorted out some storage for all the bits and pieces that seem to multiply on their own.

It might not be the most exciting project I've ever shared, but I'm pretty happy with how it's turned out. A better workspace means more room to create, fewer excuses for losing tools, and hopefully a few more birds and snails making their way into the world. 🐦🐌

Now... let's see how long I can keep it looking this tidy! πŸ˜…

What do you think? Reckon it'll stay organised, or will creative chaos win again? πŸ˜‚

πŸŽ¨πŸš— A fresh little collection is on its way to the Beaudesert Community Arts and Information Centre

It's always a great feeling packing up a selection of my cutlery birds and snails, knowing they're heading off to a place that celebrates so many talented local artists and makers.

A huge thank you to the team at the Beaudesert Community Arts & Information Centre for continuing to support local creatives and for giving my work a place on your shelves. It genuinely means a lot. ❀️

If you're heading out for a Scenic Rim day trip, make sure you pop in for a look. You'll find an incredible range of locally handmade art, gifts and crafts from some amazingly talented artists. You never know what little treasure you might take home!

Thanks again for the support, Beaudesert! 😊

🚚✨ Tully has officially joined the flock!

There's something about this rich teal finish that just suits a Lyre Bird. Bold enough to stand out, but still inspired by the beauty of our Australian wildlife.

Like all my sculptures, Tully started life as a collection of old forks and spoons before finding a brand new purpose. It's always rewarding watching a handful of cutlery slowly turn into something full of personality.

What do you reckon... has teal become one of your favourite colours so far? πŸ’™πŸ¦

πŸ› οΈπŸ¦ Everyone gets to see the fun part... making the birds.

What you don't always see is everything that happens afterwards! πŸ˜…

While I'm busy creating the next flock in the workshop, Sarah is usually behind the scenes photographing, writing listings, uploading products, organising the website and generally keeping this little operation moving forward. πŸ’»πŸ“Έ

Turns out these quirky little birds don't list themselves! πŸ˜‚

I'm incredibly lucky to have such a great mate helping me bring Art Metal By Mark to life, one listing at a time. ❀️

Now... back to making more birds so Sarah doesn't run out of work! 😜

πŸ’™πŸ¦ Well... another little character has officially joined the flock.

I'd love you to meet Azure, my newest Australian Lyrebird, handcrafted from reclaimed spoons and forks and finished in a bright mountain-sky blue with a soft pearl feature eye. β™»οΈβœ¨

It's funny how a pile of old cutlery can slowly take on a personality of its own. Somewhere between the welding, painting and the final touches, Azure seemed to decide exactly who she wanted to be.

I reckon she'd be right at home perched on a shelf, quietly supervising the room... or judging your decorating choices. πŸ˜„

So, what do you think... have I picked the right colour, or should I try another bright one next? I'd love to hear your thoughts! πŸ’™πŸ‘‡

(And if Azure has already stolen your heart, she's just fluttered into my Etsy store.) πŸ›οΈβ€οΈ

🀎🐦 Right... this bloke definitely has a few stories to tell!

I'd love you to meet Marlowe, my newest Pelican, handcrafted from reclaimed spoons and forks and finished in a rich chocolate brown. The carved details in his head came naturally from the cutlery itself, giving him loads of texture and character. βœ¨β™»οΈ

And then there are those eyes... πŸ‘€πŸ˜‚

I'm not saying he's been hanging around the local pub... but they certainly make you wonder what he's been up to!

Every bird I make develops its own personality along the way, and Marlowe was no exception. He's equal parts handsome, quirky and just a little bit suspicious. πŸ˜†

So... what's your verdict? Do those eyes make him look wise... or like he's been up all night chasing fish? πŸŽ£πŸ‘‡

(If Marlowe has made you smile, he's just waddled into my Etsy store.) β€οΈπŸ›οΈ

🐌🚨 Brainwave alert!! 🚨🐌

I've gone and done something that I'm ridiculously excited about...

I've added magnets to some of my cheeky little snails! πŸ˜‚πŸ§²

So instead of slowly crawling around your garden... they're now sliding around town on fridges! 🀣🏑

I honestly can't stop smiling every time I see one clinging to the fridge door. They make the coolest little kitchen companions and they're guaranteed to start a conversation. β™»οΈπŸ’š

Now I need your help...

πŸ‘‡ Would you put one on your fridge, or is there somewhere even more random you'd stick it?

I have a feeling these little guys might be onto something... πŸ˜„

29/07/2026

I've decided every fridge needs a little more personality. πŸŒπŸ˜‚

So... I made these little upcycled cutlery snail magnets.

They won't stop you sneaking into the kitchen for a midnight snack, but they will silently judge your life choices while guarding the cheese drawer. πŸ‘€πŸ§€

I honestly can't help smiling every time I open the fridge now!
