Over the coming weeks, I’m taking you along on an adventure I’ve never been on before.

I’ve had a fair few wild ones in my time, and now, I’ve written over 50,000 words about them.

This story focuses on chasing trout in the rivers of New England NSW, but it’s also about family and the quiet rites of passage that shape us in the bush.

With just two and a half chapters left in the first draft, it feels like time to bring you behind the scenes.

Yep. That's me. 16 years and a full head of hair ago.

But to me, that day is as clear in my mind as my vision was before I had to wear glasses.

This nice rainbow trout is where this book starts.

This trout was the first trout I'd caught in a river in the New England.

I'd caught others in the Thredbo River and other dams and lakes across the state and Tasmania.

But this fish in this wild part of the Guy Fawkes River National Park sparked a fire for adventure and the outdoors.
