Happy International Grenache Day!

Here at Turkey Flat, we really do love Grenache.

And we’re not the only ones! Huon Hooke awarded our Grenache 92 points, describing it as “bright, fresh, fruit-driven” with “serious intensity of flavour” and a “lacing of peppermint.”

From our old vines to the bottle or the can, it’s a variety that’s been part of our story for generations — and one we’re always happy to raise a glass to.

We get all sorts of vehicles coming to our Cellar Door, from the exotic to the not so exotic, sometimes one just tickles our fancy. Today's winner by a long shot is this old VW restored to perfect. This would make a pretty cool delivery van, what do you think?

Deep crimson. Lifted dark chocolate, dark musky plum aromas with marzipan notes. Richly concentrated dark plum, blackberry pastille fruits, plentiful fine gravelly textures, well-balanced mocha, marzipan notes and fresh underlying mineral acidity. Velvety firm with persistent dark berry fruits. Very impressive with superb mid-palate richness, density and torque. 2028–2042

Pruning…the most important action taken in the vineyard each year, preparing the vines for the upcoming vintage and the years in advance. It’s often cold, wet, dark and moody, but it is a craft required to produce good fruit. Our 120 year old bush vine Grenache had their haircut this week…now for Mother Nature to be kind during spring!
