I’m so happy with the patina developing on the un-lacquered tap ware in the kitchen. The choice of spout style was dictated by its position under the window shutters. I clean these with lemon juice and a microfibre cloth as suggested by so they maintain a soft shine.

Yesterday the plumbing was finished off for the kitchen and pantry. Tiling, and lots and lots of painting still to follow. Oh, and I need to decide on cabinetry hardware so we can open the drawers. Decision fatigue is real! 🤯

I’ve found it a little tricky choosing finishes for the areas we are completely renovating. I want a clean, reasonably simple aesthetic, but am mindful that this area is still part of our 124 year old house, and I don’t want a deliberate disconnect from the Victorian styling. I chose these tiles for the laundry as I still wanted some pattern and texture, but nothing too elaborate. They’ll set the tone for a monochrome palette for the fittings/fixtures that will be softened with un-lacquered brass, timber, and pops of my favourite greens.

After 14 years of thinking on it, we finally have an opening between the kitchen and dining room. 👏👏
This will mean better airflow and a lot more natural light. The other big decision in the kitchen was to double the size of the existing walk in pantry to accommodate a work bench/sink and eliminate the need for overhead cupboards in the kitchen.
