Australians discard close to 800,000 tonnes of clothing and textiles each year, a rate of 15 tonnes every 10 minutes.
There does come a time when our loved clothes may no longer fit or are just past their prime. But please don’t throw your clothes away. Here are some tips for your next closet clean out:
•Repair damaged clothing if possible
•Host a clothes swap party
•For kids clothes, hand down to friends with smaller children
•Donate to charities
•Drop off your unwanted textiles to any H&M store.
•Another way to keep your clothing out of landfill is with They will accept textiles in any condition as long as they are clean and even shoes that are no longer fit for use.
Their recycling program allows you to recycle the following items
👖Clothing items (jeans, shirts, coats, etc)
🧢Hats
🩱Wireless Bras
👙Swimwear and Bathers
🧦Socks and stockings
👟Shoes
🧵Linen (bedding, towels, tea towels, etc)
🛌Fabric mattress protectors (not waterproof/plastic)
🪡Fabric off-cuts and sewing scraps
🛋Fabric couch covers and curtains
🏄🏽♂️Wetsuits
Keep a cardboard box at your house ready to add any of the above clean items that you no longer require. Once that box is full, head to and purchase a collection that suits you.
Once you have organised a pick up, leave the box at your front door. A courier service will then come to your house and collect your unwanted items for a small fee. It really doesn’t get much easier than that ♻️
