Perimeter Books is open 11am to 5pm today, with lots of brand new titles out on the tables! Pictured here: Through Bodies and Buildings: Architecture of Gender and Sexual Dissidence (Set Margins). // Link to store in bio. // Through Bodies and Buildings examines architecture as a spatial apparatus that organises bodies, regulates desire, and structures collective life, while exploring how gender non-conforming and sexually dissident bodies challenge and transform these regimes.

By placing artistic, architectural, and theoretical positions in dialogue through essays, artistic contributions, and archival material, the publication proposes a theory-practice framework in which gender and sexual dissent are thought of as a spatial method: a way of unsettling architectural grammars by exposing their limits and breaching their logics, and of opening spaces of subversive possibility in which other forms of life, relation, and inhabitation may begin to appear.

Just landed! His library emerges here as a living archive—one that reflects his deep engagement with art, spirituality, landscape, and modernity. Moving through this space is to enter a world governed by silence, solitude, and serenity: essential values that permeate both his architecture and his way of life.

The publication is enriched by a visual essay by acclaimed photographer David Jiménez, whose images capture the subtle interplay of light and shadow, intimacy and stillness, revealing the quiet beauty of the spaces where Barragán fused traditional Mexican architecture with international modernism.

Created by Clémentine Berry, founder of the Paris-based art direction studio Twice, each issue examines the expertise behind making through a different process. F**k healing (?) the Insomniac Dreamers: The dream of a world that has to be fabricated (Set Margins, Eindhoven). // Link to store in bio. // At a time when we find ourselves repressed by conditions of atomised and isolated exploitation - not as a momentary crisis, but as the enduring condition of living under capitalism, colonialism, and patriarchy, structures that fragment, extract, and exhaust both our bodies and our imaginaries - we ask: how can we think from and within exhaustion? This exhausted and exhausting mode of existence, rather than foreclosing possibilities, becomes a locus where alternative, collective, and radical futures can be imagined, dreamed and actualised. Here, exhaustion is creatively mobilised as a conceptual lens as well as a porous threshold of experience. From this collective site, where the perceived distinctions between selves are dismantled, and from the exhausted dreams of the insomniacs, new worlds begin to form.

This book approaches exhaustion not as an end, but as a method: a way of inhabiting exhaustion differently, by attending to the fractures and fissures of exhausted bodies, institutions and systems as openings towards their recompositions otherwise. Activating Gilles Deleuze’s text ‘The Exhausted’ in relation to these porous contemporary conditions, F**k Healing (?) The Insomniac Dreamers gathers a constellation of collective practices: creatively written contributions, zines, illustrated short stories, theoretical essays, experimental forms of storytelling, and collaborative texts. It fabricates a non-hierarchical, transversal constellation of thoughts, where ideas negotiate and recombine with one another in unpredictable proximities.

The heartfelt and uncompromising What’s Ours by Myriam Boulos (Aperture, New York). // Link to store in bio. // A searing, diaristic portrayal of a city and society in revolution by Magnum nominee Myriam Boulos. In her debut monograph, Myriam Boulos casts an unflinching eye on the revolution that began in Lebanon in 2019 with protests against government corruption and austerity – culminating with the aftermath of the devastating Beirut port explosion of August 2020. She portrays her friends and family with startling energy and intimacy, in states of pleasure and protest. Boulos renders the body in public space as a powerful motif, both visceral and vulnerable in the face of state neglect and violence. Of her approach to photography, Boulos states: ‘It’s more of a need than a choice. I obsess about things and I don’t know how to deal with these obsessions in any other way but photography.’ Featuring a contextual essay by noted writer Mona Eltahawy, What’s Ours showcases Boulos’s strident and urgent vision.

Spending time with Kathryn McCool’s P.North (Perimeter Editions 081), published by Perimeter in 2023. // Link to store in bio. // The title P.North doesn’t refer to a place in the purest sense of the word. Drawing on a series of photographs made in rural New Zealand and Australia chiefly during the 1980s and 1990s, Kathryn McCool’s debut book floats between decades, locations, people, and the less palpable dynamics that connect them.

Shopkeepers, youths, churchgoers, young children, and animals populate these photographs – nondescript landscapes and sleepy, small-town goings-on building a strangely loaded backdrop. McCool’s unusual photographic signature only feeds this intangible atmosphere. Shifting focal points, analogue detritus, and incursions into the frame – by way of an errant arm, shadow or balloon – evoke both a tenderness and an unease. Whichever the case, these images hold great weight and presence. Almost every character and every composition elicits a double take. The seemingly benign distorts towards disquiet; the malevolent dissipates into innocence.

Contemplating her own questions of memory, faith, impression, and encounter, McCool pictures her subjects with genuine dignity and humour. And it is here that P.North finds its bearings. McCool has spoken about how she found a kind of solace in the awkward intensity and connection of the photographic exchange. By locking gazes with her subjects – flawed and complex as they and we all are – she reveals an endeavour to understand herself.
