Been quiet the last couple of Fridays — the boys were flat out finishing Southern NSW. Here's the catch-up 👇

The Southern NSW chapter is done ✅

6 weeks in the middle of a Bathurst winter. 9,323m of trenching, 78 pits, 2 manholes, and one huge 1.8km day.

Broke the excavator — fixed in a day. Broke the trencher — fixed in 24 hours. Hit a roo. Froze our fingers off. Kept going 🚀

Ski said the crew "collapsed over the finish line." Massive effort from the boys, and big thanks to Ventia.

A good signage setup is not just about the screen.

It’s about whether the school can actually keep the content current without turning it into another fiddly job for staff.

Fusion Signage’s new Canva integration is a good step in that direction.

It means schools using Fusion Signage can create and update content in Canva, then send it straight into their signage workflow without the usual export, download, and re-upload routine.

For schools, that matters.

Daily notices, event reminders, welcome messaging, parent communication, internal updates. Signage is only useful when it stays relevant, and simpler workflows make that much easier.

This kind of improvement makes signage easier to manage in real life, which is where most systems succeed or fail. And that’s usually the difference between signage that helps and signage that just hangs there.

At TBP, digital signage is not just a screen on a wall. It works best when it’s part of a broader, well-supported AV environment across the school. The easier it is for staff to keep content current, the more useful the signage becomes.

At The Big Picture Group, we think a proposal should reduce uncertainty, not add to it.

Before a school says yes, a proposal should clearly show:

- what problem is being solved
- how the room will work day to day
- what is being standardised
- what handover and support look like

If it only explains the equipment and price, it’s incomplete.

Schools are not just buying gear. They’re buying confidence that the room will work and the school won’t be left carrying the mess later.

Regional and remote jobs test a crew properly.

Not because they sound tough in a LinkedIn post.

Because the basics matter more when the job is harder to recover.

Mobilisation.
Equipment readiness.
Communication.
Supervision.
Planning.
The ability to adapt without dropping the standard.

If any of that is loose, the job gets expensive quickly.

That was the brief for this Microsoft Teams Room delivered at St John's Anglican College.

We installed a ViewSonic 105" ultrawide display, Shure IntelliMix Room Kit 70, dual MXA902 ceiling arrays, and Huddly L1 camera, then commissioned and handed the space over ready for day-to-day use.

Simple to use. Clean to deploy. Easy to manage remotely. Clear across the room.

Exactly how it should be.

AV budgets usually don’t blow out because schools want too much.

They blow out because standards were never set. When every room gets scoped from scratch, costs drift fast.

Different room logic.
Different equipment choices.
Different support needs.
Different pricing outcomes.
That creates pain in the budget.

Then it creates more pain after install.

Because inconsistency doesn’t just cost money once. It costs again in training, troubleshooting, replacements, and support load.

Standardisation doesn’t mean every room has to be identical. It means the school has made clear decisions early about:
- what should repeat
- what should vary
- what “good” looks like across the campus

That’s usually where budget control starts.

If you’re trying to make next year’s AV budget easier to defend, set the standards before the scope starts drifting.

A room can work perfectly and still introduce risk if security was not considered during design.

That is the shift more schools need to pay attention to.

As AV moves further onto the network, displays, control panels, cameras, DSPs, room booking panels, and wireless presentation systems stop being “just AV”. They become part of the wider IT environment.

That changes the standard. It is no longer enough to ask whether the room works.

Schools also need to ask:
where the system sits on the network
who can access it
how it is segmented
how updates are handled
and whether security was considered from the start or bolted on later

That is now part of competent AV delivery.

3.5km in a week. Ski reckons it's up there with the best they've ever had 🏆

1.3km of pipe plus 2.2km of direct buried fibre through rolling country outside Bathurst. The kind of week where the work just flows.

And wildly, this was the first puncture the trencher has had in 18 MONTHS. The tire mate rocked up in 20 minutes and had it sorted in 40. Ski's network doing what it does best.

Also the weather couldn't decide what it wanted to do. Ice on everything one morning, Ski in a shirt the next. Beautiful days when they come 💛
