Today, Chris and Pat teamed up with the Tumut Valley Canoe Club to clean up a 5km stretch of the Tumut River for day.

We collected plenty of bottles and general rubbish along the way but what’s most concerning is the number of inflatable beds abandoned in the river. These don’t just disappear, please don’t leave them in the river.

We’re lucky to live in such an incredible community and looking after our backyard isn’t just important, it’s essential to the long term health of our rivers.

A big thank you to Wayne Skein for allowing us to pull out at his campsite and supporting the effort.

Let’s all do our part to keep the Tumut River (and all our waterways) clean and thriving.

Scenes from bike packing along Blowering Dam

05/02/2026

Blowering Dam, one of the largest in NSW, it's a massive expanse of water to admire while driving past, offering ever-changing views and countless bays and points, but Pat was seeking a trip offering a different, slower point of view instead of flying past it in the comfort of the car.

Pat embarks on his first-ever solo bike packing mission, riding the full western side of Blowering Dam from Talbingo to Tumut over two days. Gravel roads, fire trails, single track, hidden bays, epic mountain views, wildlife encounters, swimming spots, summer heat, storms, and a whole lot of pedalling.

Lost in the 2020 bushfires, Four Mile Hut—originally built by Kiandra miner Bob Hughes in 1934— has now been meticulously rebuilt by NSW National Parks builders with help from volunteers of the Kosciuszko Huts Association and NSW Nordic Ski Club.

Lost in the 2020 Kosciuszko bushfires, Four Mile Hut is a story of resilience, heritage and community in the high country of Kosciuszko National Park.
