Yet another commissioned body build using Paulownia wood, aka Empress wood, for a client who had all the donor parts, neck, hardware, electronics.
We went a light relic of the Lake Placid Blue nitro finish I sprayed and the sonic difference was night & day compared to its original thick poly coated alder body to this light weight Empress wood body.
Finished guitar hit the scales at 2.5kg

A lovely result as I was commissioned to make a custom Nashville T body using Paulownia wood, the same timber I’ve used to create the guitars that Rick & John Brewster of The Angels now play.
This build had a donor neck & Tele neck & bridge pickups, I wound it a middle pickup to suit.
A new bridge & tremolo were also supplied & I cut it the pickguard.
A light tint & some clear coats brought out the figure in this very light weight timber.
A very happy day when it sang its first song.

The Music Man banana bass has been reborn.
It’s no longer a Bongo, it’s renamed the Drongo.
The carbon fibre rods, dual action trussrod & stainless steel frets have made the Drongo one straight arrow.

The crafting of the replacement neck for the 5 string music man ‘Bongo’ bass is looking good.
From a drawing on a roll of paper to a working template to a shaped neck.
The original neck was always on the move up n down with a less than useful single action trussrod.
The new neck I’m making has both a dual action truss rod plus 2 carbon fibre rods to keep it in check.
Frets in tomorrow then a lick of nitro next week & the home straight is coming round the corner.
Away again fri-sun on tour with The Angels, so sit tight & I’ll get your guitars in for some DRW magic.

Yet another paulownia slab being shaped into a Tele style body with the Nashville pickup configuration.
Some deep comfort curves carved in and soft rolled profiles body edges & this one is weighing under 1kg.

A tasty new suit for Rick’s DRW Tele as it was Daphne blue with gold GT stripes & was meant for the studio. Rick loved the tone of it so much, it came back here & got a piano black nitro respray & it was the star of Rick’s guitar parts all night at Toronto Sunset Sounds on Saturday.

A rockin’ Saturday in Toronto with The Angels headlining the Sunset Sounds festival.
A full house that weren’t scared of a little precipitation.
Thanks to Derek Bovill for his FOH mix and all the diy cable running & labelling we did to make the change over as trouble free as possible.
This coming Saturday at Menangle raceway for another killer evening of Oz rock 🤘
