Explore! Series Hi-Lo Readers for Adolescents.

Explore Series HiLo Series
40 readers in the series release!

How do you get older kids to read? The readers that are suitable for their reading level are too babyish. They are feeling shame due to their literacy level. This shame is made a lot worse with readers that are for younger children and not adolescents. These are called HiLo readers!

We have addressed this problem with a series called Explore. It is 40 readers with stories that are related to the readers' age group without being childish. Struggling readers will find the level easy and the stories engaging. The stories align with their subjects in upper primary and secondary schools so it becomes relevant to their schoolwork.

Each difficult word is carefully introduced and repeated to build fluency and skill in its continual usage. The structure of the sentences is limited in length so that the cognitive load in long sentences is reduced. The stories are topical and can fit within the Australian curriculum. An excellent means of providing opportunities for student practice in a non-threatening form.

This series is based on individuals overcoming personal challenges and succeeding as well as other topics on nature and science. In eXplore Set 2, timeless classics are included, recreation and sports, nature and sciences. Beautifully presented and cleverly written for the struggling reader in primary and secondary classes.

Low literacy level books can be used with a great range of students. High-interest readers provide the opportunity to engage the students in topics of interest to them. Reading age is 6-7 years. Reading recovery levels are:

Set 1 (paperback): levels 19 to 28
Set 2 (hardback): levels 14 to 20

Hardback books to stand up to rigorous use over a long period. This new series is heavily discounted to provide you with a superb set of readers that are ideal for the HiLo classes and ESL at a low literacy stage. The content is designed to be of interest to the upper primary and early secondary-level students.

The Teachers’ Resources are comprehensive and include 'before reading' exercises, addressing familiarity with the sight words, and 'after reading' to extend with reading, writing, and comprehension. It is aimed at building word vocabulary, sight words, and writing practice exercises.

Learn to Read Quickly and Cheaply!

You do not need the special courses and the big sign-up costs to learn to read. Readng LINK is a proven and effective DIY series which has the results.

READING LINK
Reading LINK - literacy, enhancement and proficiency

Why are students failing to learn to read?
a/ foundation skills in phonics and decoding are not understood,
b/ students do not master the process and lack the skills,
c/ students regress over time due to lack of practice; too much time in front of a screen!
d/ They are 'reading' but do not understand! They stop trying as the text becomes a foreign language and their school achievements fall.
e/ Most of the teaching of literacy is not structured and is not skill-based.

Some points:
a/ low literacy levels are not a sign of low intelligence,
b/ yes students can catch up,
c/ reading the text does not mean comprehending, we can read a word but this does not mean we understand,
d/ students can be taught to read with rapid progress - to fluency in less than 6 months!
e/ if you are not a fluent reader - it is near to impossible to be successful in high school.

Reading LINK has been used successfully by tens of thousands of students over the last 20 years+. There were 12 yo boys and girls who could not read a sentence who are now university graduates being very successful in their careers. It has been used in primary and secondary schools across Australia and internationally.

Problems with reading is not an intelligence issue. The problem is understand the process as how sounds and words are made. Once this is understood and practised the student learns quickly.

At the core are phonics and decoding. But this course is different! It includes mastery and fluency at every stage. A student only progresses once they have mastered that word, that sound or sound blend. This means that the words are committed to memory. The skills are never lost and the student continues to progress at a steady pace. Students are motivated to continue as the feedback loop is very clear; "I know it!". Students do not need the parent, teacher, teacher aide, or tutor to tell them; "Good work! You are doing so well!". It is clear to the student that they know and can apply the skill to any text presented to them. This feedback loop is the key to Reading LINK's continued success. Students learn the process of daily lessons and focus. This may take several weeks or even longer to break old bad habits but once done, the student is a different person. Self-esteem is evident as the student knows they have unlocked the code to reading fluently.

If the program is followed correctly and thoroughly it will work quickly and effectively. If shortcuts are introduced, the program will not work and be like any other program that is being used today. Shortcuts are not following the steps. It is best to start below what a student would know, so they practise the method before learning unknowns and new skills. Lastly, it can be wildly successful with non-readers, but caution is needed to progress at a steady pace rather than rushing. The brain is undergoing neural growth and that speed is limited. If you push your students too hard you will get rapid fatigue and loss of motivation. This fatigue will be very damaging to further progress. Be steady, develop a long-term plan, and do not rush to get results.

If you have a student who is unable to read, research your options and look for a structured course with proven outcomes. We can show 20 years of results from tutors, teachers, parents, and teacher aides. Call 07 55680288 for further information, or follow the link for more information about this course.
