Nays Place

Nays Place Fun, Fabric, Friendship and did I mention FABRIC - I welcome you to my place to sit, sew, ask, share

Welcome to my new likers - I have had a few people question my opening hours and I thought if I introduced myself then that may answer a few questions. I am a full time Bank Manager, wife and mum with a passion for sewing and handicrafts, just over 50 though still acting like a teenager. I have had the wonderful opportunity to follow my dream and open Nays Place firstly at markets in 2014 and then

in its current location since 2017 on a part-time basis. I have 3 kids and my husband is a policeman locally; working shift work. Since I was given an opportunity to move Nays Place from my shed into town on the main street of Waikerie Easter 2017; I have been able to hold more classes and open more hours than just the Sunday afternoon that I use to do at home. Without the support, encouragement and assistance from friends and family, this wouldn't have been possible. Since opening in town I have been honoured to meet so many of my Nays Place friends and made new friends many from out of town and interstate and even overseas visitors to Waikerie. One day I hope to be able to open Nays Place full time and live my dream. Welcome and Thank You for liking Nays Place.

Loving these customer projects - big thanks to Lyn for being our delivery driver - the Sunday ladies and Morgan Quilting and Craft group have been busy making toiletry bags and a few quilts for Backpacks_4_sa_kids

Lyn has bought in a small selection of quilts that she has made - many of the donated fabrics that you lovely people leave at the shop make their way to these charity quilts.

I had a fun weekend called in on an amazing quilting friend who has an incredible array of projects; thoughts and challenges in her life but still managed to give me her time and we worked on a small project - a scissor keep with ‘goat’ stitch better known as glove stitch. Also had a look at an amazing photo book from the SA quilters on the go recent trip to Hamilton and Missouri Star Quilt Company.

Janet has recently returned from Canada and was telling us about the quilt shops that she visited and I was lucky enough to be spoilt with some gifts - thank you.

We have 1 more spot free in Christine Lethleans Landscape workshop August 8th & 9th. Let me know if your interested.

The store is still in a little bit of a shamble but we’re slowing getting there and hopefully I get some time to do a little bit of reorganising this weekend.

This weekend is SA Quilters Festival of Quilts - always a stunning display - at the CraftAlive Adelaide Showgrounds- open from the 10th - 12th July 9:30am -4pm

To help celebrate Christmas In July all my Christmas Fabrics will be 50% off until the end of July - minimum cut 50cm.

Friday 10:30am-3:30pm

THANK YOU FOR YOUR KIND COMMENTS The majority of shop stock is ok - its just been an eventful week and this topped it off - having a well deserved break this weekend

Hasn’t the wet weather been amazing - we’re having a cold wet winter - that hasn’t happened for a while in Waikerie.

The down side of that is the rain decided to come inside the shop and most of the quilts in the front window display, fat quarter bundles in the drawers and a few trays of embroidery threads and embroidery wool got wet.

Unfortunately I think all of the donated books for the book library also got wet - I will check the final damage in the morning.

Tomorrow morning you may still find ‘stuff’ everywhere while I try to dry out furniture and the floor and work out what I’m going to do with the wet skeins and books.

On the bright side the cabinets are now a little bit cleaner 😉

Friday 10:30am-3:30pm

UPCOMING 2 DAY WORKSHOP

The amazing Christine Lethlean is coming back with her ‘A Textile Landscape’ workshop

A landscape is more than a place, it is an experience of light, colour, texture,
memory and emotion.

This workshop invites participants to slow down; observe the landscape they
have chosen with fresh eyes and discover ways of expressing what resonates personally through textiles and stitch. Rather than reproducing a scene exactly as it appears, participants will be encouraged to interpret what they see, creating an artwork that reflects their own observations and imagination.

Working in a supportive and encouraging environment, participants will explore composition, perspective, colour, texture and layering while learning practical textile techniques through demonstrations, mini tutorials and individual mentoring. Every participant is encouraged to follow their own creative path, ensuring that each finished landscape is as individual as the person who created it

This will be held over two days at Waikerie August 8th and 9th 2026 10am-4pm

Cost for BOTH two days will be between $100-120 with some supplies available at an extra cost - requirements list will be emailed once all is confirmed.

Sewing Machine with a darning foot is required for this workshop.

Please message or email me if interested - spaces are limited

Thanks
