I went to Bunnings to buy a bath plug.
I’m in the right area, baths and sinks are on display. So I ask the Bunnings man who is stocking a shelf nearby where I might find the bath plugs. He looks at me blankly and says “ I don’t know what you mean”.
I thought I must have said it strangely so I repeat my request.
“Do you mean a strainer?” he asks, holding up a strainer he had been stocking.
“No, a bath plug. You know, you put it in the hole to stop the water running out while you are in the bath” says I, feeling somewhat bemused.
Then came the crusher …. “Is your bath leaking?” asks the man in the Bunnings uniform.
So here I am, a 70 year old woman, finding myself in the middle of Bunnings, doing a charade of having a bath and pulling out the plug.
“Oh” he says, and pulls out his phone to check on the Bunnings app!
Now, I know Bunnings staff have to know about a large range of products, but I think if I asked a 2 year-old to identify a bath plug they would. A bath plug is one of those things you just know, a life experience.
This bloke was in his 40s.
