Tips for reaching Triple Zero if you’re having trouble connecting.

In an emergency, every second matters. That's why all Australian mobile network operators work behind the scenes to help your Triple Zero (000) call connect. Even when you are outside Optus coverage, a 000 call can still be made if another mobile network is available.

🔵 What happens when you call 000?
First, your mobile phone will try to connect using your mobile network. If that isn't available, your phone will try to connect to another mobile network, if available. This is known as ‘emergency camp-on’.

🔵 What to do if your 000 call doesn't seem to be connecting?
If your initial call doesn’t connect within around five seconds, hang up and try again immediately.

🔵 And if it still doesn’t seem to be connecting?
Stay on the line for up to 60 seconds to give your phone the best chance to connect via another network. Generally, there will be silence on the line while this happens.

For more information on connecting to 000, visit: triplezero.gov.au under ‘How to call 000’ section

The most recent cyberbully wasn't a stranger for many kids. 75% said it was someone they knew in real life. From harmful online behaviour to emerging risks like deepfakes and AI-generated content, young people are facing a more complex digital world than ever before.

That's why conversations at home, support at school, and strong digital literacy skills matter. Through the Optus Digital Thumbprint program, and as part of our commitment under the Optus 2030 Sustainability Strategy, we're helping young Australians build the skills and confidence to stay safe online.

This Bullying No Way Week, encourage your child's school to join our cyber safety workshops, supported by Supercars champion Chaz Mostert. Together, we can help young people navigate the online world safely and confidently.
