Flowers, foliage, a little creativity and a very lovely way to spend an afternoon in Wollombi Village.

Local artist Shayne Davy creates her beautiful dried flower pieces from her small acreage in the Lower Hunter, using flowers and foliage she grows herself or forages from the surrounding countryside. Dried Flower Creations

Everything is carefully dried in her barn, capturing a little piece of the season and the landscape.

And today, the creativity was shared as a group of lovely ladies got together to make their own dried flower creations. 🌾💐

A slow afternoon, beautiful company and something gorgeous to take home.

Some news we’ve been sitting on: Polina Karuso, who runs her painting workshops from the Artisan Collective barn, is on Season 2 of ABC’s Portrait Artist of the Year — Episode 6, out now on ABC TV and iview.

Polina was introduced as a Wollombi artist, painting bold colour, unconventional compositions. Her work often comes straight out of this landscape. True to form, she made the four hours even harder, working a hardwood block and a large canvas at the same time. Frantic, but that’s how she paints.

Her sitter in the episode is Jenny Kee one of the most recognisable names in Australian fashion, famous for colour, something Polina isn’t afraid to use.

Jenny picked Polina’s portrait as her favourite, which feels less like luck and more like two people who see colour & boldness in the same way finding each other.

Little improvised artists talk at Sculpture in the Vineyards yesterday. Thanks to everyone who has visited so far and all the wonderful volunteers. You can find this work of mine called Stone Hinge directly across the road from and tge both excellent establishments for local food, wine and gin.

Sculpture in the Vineyards continues for two more weeks and weekends and is the largest sculpture show in Australia so not to be missed if you love sculpture.

For more hands on experiences, you can also enjoy an art immersion day this Wednesday as part of the Wollombi Sculpture Festival at Winmark Wines in Broke.

The day will include:
- a communal ceramic sculpture making workshop with me
- a talk about sculpture and
- an informed walk around the Winmark sculpture park with owner Karin Adcock and distinguished London artist Isabel Langtry Principal of the Hampstead School of Art.
- coffee, lunch and award winning Winmark wine.
