TRUTH BOMB. 💣

The number one thing that surprised me about writing a book?

It wasn’t how long it took.
It wasn’t how vulnerable it felt.
It wasn’t even how many cups of tea I drank along the way.

It was this:
The moment I wrote “The End,” I realised it wasn’t the end at all.
It was the beginning of a whole new chapter — in my life, in my confidence, in who I believed I could be.

Writing a book changes you.
It challenges you.
And it grows you.

If you’ve got a story whispering inside you — write it.

Not just for the book.

But for the version of you waiting on the other side.

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK YOU WANT TO GET PUBLISHED?

If you do, I want to remind you to have an open mind about how it may come about.

My journey to becoming a published author wasn’t traditional. In fact, I didn't even know a book could be picked up by a publisher in the way it happened for me.

I started by self-publishing my first book, then walked into my local book shop (Dymocks) in my hometown of Wollongong and asked the store manager if he’d stock it.

He said yes – and that moment changed everything. It was there that my book caught the eye of a publisher from major Australian publisher, New Holland. The Business Manager took my book back to the CEO, she read it and loved it, and next minute I was on the shelves of every major bookstore in Australia. So yes, I secured a publishing deal, but not in the way you might have guessed.

I’ve walked all the roads – self-publishing, traditional, hybrid – and I want you to know there is no single ‘right’ path. What matters is getting your story into the world. Don’t get disheartened if things don’t happen quickly – there is no fixed timeline when it comes to publishing. Your journey might take a different shape to others, and that’s okay.

Stick at it and keep believing in your words.
