A very special sewing job this week, on top of the oven mitt orders. Indi had her "ladies op" and we couldn't bear the thought of a cone for a week or so .Necessity is the mother of invention, so I bought a pattern and made her a stylish pair of soft recovery pyjamas. So far so good, she loves them. Her tummy is protected, she's comfortable and she can do what a dog needs to do!

Ours is the one underneath.

The black and white check on top is a regular shop-bought double oven mitt. Under it is one of ours, roughly 90cm end to end, with deep pockets, proper insulation inside and a hard wearing denim or moleskin back. The extra length matters when you are lifting a big roasting dish and want your hands properly covered, not just your fingertips.

Taking a hot dish somewhere is the bit nobody really has a good answer for. Tea towel over the top, dish on the passenger seat, hope for the best.

These are quilted insulated carriers. The dish sits in the middle, the four corners fold up and tie at the top, and the heat stays where you want it. Denim on one side and printed cotton on the other, so you can turn them either way out.

There are six ready made ones in the shop now from $40, in a medium and a large. If you would rather pick your own fabric we make them to order in three sizes from $55. The medium takes a lasagne dish perfectly, and the biggest one takes two 12 inch pizzas. Just cover your dish with a lid or some foil first and it will travel happily.

There is something quietly satisfying about a kitchen that matches.

Our hanging towels, double oven mitts and bowl cosies are made from the same fabrics, so they can be put together as a set. The towel has a buttoned top that sits over the oven rail or a cupboard handle. The double covers both hands and hangs on the rail when you are done. The bowl cosy lets you lift a hot bowl straight out of the microwave.

If you have ever juggled a hot roasting tray with two separate oven mitts, you already know why the doubles are our most popular thing by a long way.
