Because the landscape was always going to be the soul of this property 🌴

The house was never designed to be the hero — it was designed as a quiet backdrop for the trees, plants, stone and overall atmosphere of the space and environment. A home that complements the landscape rather than competes with it.

Advanced trees and feature plants are not something you simply “add later”. Their scale, mature height, root systems, shadows, spacing and access all need to be considered long before construction begins.

The giant sandstone boulders were positioned first to shape the land naturally. Stone walls and oversized stone steps were installed early to establish levels and movement throughout the property. Gravel courtyards, concrete pathways and pool surrounds were completed before messy trades arrived so the landscape itself could guide the build process.

When excavating for the slab and piers, we reused the soil across the property to create mounds, elevation and a sense of drama within the garden rather than removing it unnecessarily. Recycling what already existed on site allowed the landscape to feel more natural and established.

The garden was designed to feel immersive — layered heights, framed views, mature olives, stone, texture and structure all working together to create atmosphere.

Building the landscape first also protected the vision long term.
No machinery destroying finished gardens later.
No trades walking through mud. 🙌🏽
No last-minute landscaping trying to make the house feel complete.

For us the architecture and the garden should feel inseparable — as though the home was placed carefully within an already existing landscape.
