The usual cent for $124,000?! The history of the legendary coin marriage 😲👇

Imagine: you are holding an ordinary 1 cent copper coin in your hands, which visually looks like it's double in your eyes. But in fact, this "mistake" of the mint makes its owner richer by tens of thousands of dollars!

We are talking about the famous 1955 Doubled Die Lincoln Cent - a coin that turned the world of numismatics upside down. Not so long ago, one of the rarest copies in perfect preservation went to auction for a record $124,875!

How did an ordinary cent become a treasure?

In 1955, there was a technical failure at the Philadelphia Mint. Due to the offset of the stamp, the letters and numbers on the front side of the coin were minted twice. The date "1955" and the inscription "IN GOD WE TRUST" can be seen with the naked eye even without a magnifying glass! About 20,000 such coins managed to get into circulation. Most of them people just spent on ci******es or chewing gum, not even knowing what they were holding in their hands.

Today they are hunted by collectors from all over the world, and the price even for a worn coin out of pocket starts from $1,000.
