Field Impact Evaluation | Rural Women's Economic Empowerment & Financial Literacy in climate -Affected Bangladesh .

Today, I conducted a field assessment to evaluate the impact of our financial literacy & entrepreneurs program among rural women.

Through direct interviews, workshops, and visits to agriculture and fisheries enterprises, I observed strong improvements in income generation, financial decision-making, and business sustainability.

Many participants have become self-reliant micro-entrepreneurs, strengthening household resilience.

I also identified key challenges—such as market access and climate risks—and provided practical, localized solutions to support their growth.

This experience reaffirms a key principle of development economics: financial literacy combined with market access can drive real, sustainable economic transformation.

গবেষণা শুরু করতে গিয়ে একেবারে নতুনরা যে দুটো জিনিস নিয়ে সবচেয়ে বেশি গুলিয়ে ফেলেন, তা হলো Research Gap আর Problem Statement।

দেখতে বা শুনতে কাছাকাছি মনে হলেও, এরা আসলে একটা থিসিস বা রিসার্চ পেপারের দুটো আলাদা অধ্যায়।

ধরুন, Research Gap হলো আপনার একটা আবিষ্কার। আপনি দিনের পর দিন পেপার পড়তে পড়তে হঠাৎ একটা জায়গায় এসে থমকে গেলেন।আরে, এই জায়গাটাতে তো কেউ কাজ করেনি! বা করলেও, কাজটা ঠিকমতো হয়নি। লিটারেচারের এই যে শূন্যস্থানটা, এটাই Gap। এটা কিন্তু আপনি নিজে তৈরি করেন না, লিটারেচার রিভিউ করতে গিয়ে আপনি এটা খুঁজে পান।

অন্যদিকে, Problem Statement হলো আপনার সেই আবিষ্কারকে একটা লজিক্যাল যুক্তিতে দাঁড় করানো। Gap যদি আপনাকে বলে এই রাস্তায় আগে কেউ হাঁটেনি, Problem Statement তখন বলে আমি এই রাস্তায় হাঁটব, এবং আমার হাঁটাটা এই এই কারণে জরুরি।

একটা বাস্তব উদাহরণ দিই।

ধরে নিন, বাংলাদেশের ক্ষুদ্র কৃষকদের প্রযুক্তি গ্রহণ (Technology Adoption) নিয়ে অনেক গবেষণা আছে। কিন্তু আপনি দেখলেন, হাওর অঞ্চলের কৃষকদের নিয়ে তেমন কোনো কাজই হয়নি। এটা হলো আপনার Gap।

এখন, এই Gap থেকে Problem Statement-টা কেমন হবে? অনেকটা এমন, হাওর অঞ্চলের ভৌগোলিক অবস্থান এবং মৌসুমী বন্যা কীভাবে একজন কৃষকের প্রযুক্তি গ্রহণের সিদ্ধান্তকে প্রভাবিত করছে, সেটা এখনো অস্পষ্ট। এই সমস্যার সমাধান না হলে ওই অঞ্চলের কৃষির পলিসি মেকিং বাধাগ্রস্ত হবে।

দেখুন Gap আপনাকে দেখিয়ে দিল শূন্যতাটা কোথায়। আর Problem Statement জাস্টিফাই করল যে, ওই শূন্যতাটা পূরণ করা কেন জরুরি এবং আপনি ঠিক কোন প্রশ্নের উত্তর খুঁজছেন।

সবশেষে একটা ছোট্ট insight দিই, যেটা অনেক গবেষকই মিস করেন।
কোথাও একটা Gap থাকলেই যে সেটা নিয়ে আপনাকে গবেষণা করতে হবে, এমন কোনো কথা নেই। Gap টা আদৌ significant কি না সেটাই আসল প্রশ্ন। Problem Statement মূলত সেই significance বা গুরুত্বটাই প্রমাণ করে। আপনি যখন একটা সলিড Problem Statement লিখবেন, তখন পেপারের Reviewer পড়েই বুঝতে পারবেন এই গবেষণাটা না হলে তো আসলেই একটা ক্ষতি ছিল।

সোজা কথায়, Research Gap খুঁজে বের করাটা হলো একটা Skill। আর সেই Gap থেকে একটা Problem Statement লেখাটা হলো Art!

How much do the CEOs of Bangladesh’s leading banks earn? How old are they, and how long have they been leading their respective institutions? This comparative overview is based on audited 2025 disclosures.
