Dear all,

Let’s start by taking a moment to express our gratitude for being blessed and privileged enough to reach the holy month of Ramadan.
The true essence of Ramadan is to soak our limbs in kindness and generosity.
Although we are going to be celebrating Ramadan differently, and we have suspended physical contact, we are still connected and we need to remember that.

TarShayn’s wondrous journey didn’t begin as one to simply make profit. Since I was a teenager, I was always invested in fashion- I wanted to create ‘wearable art’ as I dubbed it. Growing up, I was involved with a multitude of NGOs and charitable organisations and one of my key areas of focus was women empowerment. When I realised there was an opportunity to combine both to make a difference for our community, I revelled in joy. I employed these incredible craftsmen to translate my visions into reality and I also felt immensely content that I was able to contribute to their livelihood.

Today, this COVID-19 pandemic is wrecking havoc in their lives as small and mid-sized enterprises are being brutally affected. Despite trying personally to our utmost to support our artisans, we are falling short due to the demand supply struggles at present. These people are our family. And they are in need of our help more than ever and we need greater support to help them.

We may not be able to ‘touch’ each other in person, but we can touch each other through acts of kindness fuelled by love, compassion and empathy we have for our community. We need to unite and pool resources to help sustain the vulnerable people of our community. Unless we join forces, not everyone will survive this crisis.
Local artisans NEED YOU. Local businesses and designers NEED YOU. Let us come forward together. This blessed Ramadan SUPPORT our LOCAL businesses. SUPPORT our LOCAL artisans. Wear DESI this Eid- remember you’re not splurging when you’re buying clothes this Eid, you’re supporting a family that needs you.
Our true humanity and strength lies in standing TOGETHER. We can overcome this TOGETHER.
