A lost starship...
A dire warning from futures past...
A desperate search for salvation...
----------------------------------------------

Captain Mitchell "Ares" Williams is a Space Marine and the hero of the Battle for Liberty, whose Shot Heard 'Round the Universe saved the planet from a nearly unstoppable war machine. He's handsome, charismatic, and the perfect poster boy to help the military drive enlistment. Pulled from the war and thrown into the spotlight, he's as efficient at charming the media and bedding beautiful celebrities as he was at shooting down enemy starfighters.

After an assassination attempt leaves Mitchell critically wounded, he begins to suffer from strange hallucinations that carry a chilling and oddly familiar warning:

They are coming. Find the Goliath or humankind will be destroyed.

Convinced that the visions are a side-effect of his injuries, he tries to ignore them, only to learn that he may not be as crazy as he thinks. The enemy is real and closer than he imagined, and they'll do whatever it takes to prevent him from rediscovering the centuries lost starship.

Narrowly escaping capture, out of time and out of air, Mitchell lands at the mercy of the Riggers - a ragtag crew of former commandos who patrol the lawless outer reaches of the galaxy. Guided by a captain with a reputation for cold-blooded murder, they're dangerous, immoral, and possibly insane.

They may also be humanity's last hope for survival in a war that has raged beyond eternity.

After witnessing the death of his younger brother in a terrible home accident, 14-year-old Kevin and his grieving mother are sent for the summer to live with Kevin's grandfather. In this peeled-paint coal town deep in Appalachia, Kevin quickly falls in with a half-wild hollow kid named Buzzy Fink who schools him in the mysteries and magnificence of the woods. The events of this fateful summer will affect the entire town of Medgar, Kentucky.

Medgar is beset by a massive Mountaintop Removal operation that is blowing up the hills and back filling the hollows. Kevin's grandfather and others in town attempt to rally the citizens against the 'company' and its powerful owner to stop the plunder of their mountain heritage. When Buzzy witnesses the brutal murder of the opposition leader, a sequence is set in play which tests Buzzy and Kevin to their absolute limits in an epic struggle for survival in the Kentucky mountains.

Redemptive and emotionally resonant, The Secret Wisdom of the Earth is narrated by an adult Kevin looking back on the summer when he sloughed the coverings of a boy and took his first faltering steps as a man among a rich cast of characters and an ambitious effort to reclaim a once great community.

There is no cure for being who you truly are...

In a cottage high atop Llanfair Mountain, sixteen-year-old Clara lives with her sister, Maren, and guardian Auntie. By day, they gather herbs for Auntie’s healing potions. By night, Auntie spins tales of faraway lands and wicked fairies. Clara’s favorite story tells of three orphan infants—Clara, who was brought to Auntie by a stork; Maren, who arrived in a seashell; and their best friend, O’Neill, who was found beneath an apple tree.

One day, Clara discovers shimmering scales just beneath her sister’s skin. She realizes that Maren is becoming a mermaid—and knows that no mermaid can survive on land. Desperate to save her, Clara and O’Neill place the mermaid-girl in their gypsy wagon and set out for the sea. But no road is straight, and the trio encounters trouble around every bend. Ensnared by an evil troupe of traveling performers, Clara and O’Neill must find a way to save themselves and the ever-weakening mermaid.

And always, in the back of her mind, Clara wonders, if my sister is a mermaid, then what am I?

Graduate students Zoë and Holli only mean to blow off some steam on their road trip to Las Vegas. But something goes terribly wrong on their way home, and the last time Zoë sees her, Holli is in the clutches of a sadistic killer. Zoë flees with her life, changed forever.

A year later and still tortured with guilt, Zoë latches on to a police investigation where the crime eerily resembles her abduction. Along with a zealous detective, she retraces the steps of that fateful night in the desert, hoping that her memory will return and help them find justice for Holli. Her abductor—labeled the “Tally Man” by a fascinated media—lies in wait for Zoë. For him, she is not a survivor but simply the one that got away.

With an unforgettable heroine, a chillingly disturbed psychopath, and a story that moves at breakneck speed, The One That Got Away is thriller writer Simon Wood at his finest.

It’s 1998, and for years the old First Bank of Cleveland has sat abandoned, perfectly preserved, its secrets only speculated on by the outside world.

Twenty years before, amid strange staff disappearances and allegations of fraud, panicked investors sold Cleveland’s largest bank in the middle of the night, locking out customers and employees, and thwarting a looming federal investigation. In the confusion that followed, the keys to the vault’s safe-deposit boxes were lost.

In the years since, Cleveland’s wealthy businessmen kept the truth buried in the abandoned high-rise. The ransacked offices and forgotten safe-deposit boxes remain locked in time, until young engineer Iris Latch stumbles upon them during a renovation survey. What begins as a welcome break from her cubicle becomes an obsession as Iris unravels the bank’s sordid past. With each haunting revelation, Iris follows the looming shadow of the past deeper into the vault—and soon realizes that the key to the mystery comes at an astonishing price.

Lillian Linden is a liar. On the surface, she looks like a brave survivor of a plane crash. But she’s been lying to her family, her friends, and the whole world since rescue helicopters scooped her and her fellow survivor, Dave Hall, off a deserted island in the South Pacific. Missing for almost two years, the castaways are thrust into the spotlight after their rescue, becoming media darlings overnight. But they can’t tell the real story—so they lie.

The public is fascinated by the castaways’ saga, but Lillian and Dave must return to their lives and their spouses. Genevieve Randall—a hard-nosed journalist and host of a news program—isn’t buying it. She suspects Lillian’s and Dave’s explanations about the other crash survivors aren’t true. And now, Genevieve’s determined to get the real story, no matter how many lives it destroys.

In this intriguing tale of survival, secrets, and redemption, two everyday people thrown together by tragedy must finally face the truth…even if it tears them apart.

Most people wouldn’t think that pyromania and parenting would go together, but hey, every family is different. For me to lose myself in a thriller, I need characters (fire starters or not) I can care deeply about—action scenes alone won’t do it. Everything Burns took me on a psychological roller-coaster ride through action and emotion that I can’t forget.

Author Vincent Zandri told me he was inspired partly by the way his own family was reunited. “When I started dating my wife again, six years after our divorce, I couldn’t help but wonder what her attraction had been to the man she had been seeing in the meantime. A guy who was also a writer...go figure!” Zandri took this experience to a new and darker level in writing Reece Johnston, who is haunted and obsessed by fire.

Reece becomes trapped in his own paranoia about his rival for his ex-wife’s affections, and he can’t fully accept that his fractured family has come together again. But even as he finds himself sinking back into destructive old habits, he still pushes forward in a desperate attempt to keep his ex and daughter safe.

As Vince said, “I wrote Everything Burns hoping that readers would devour it in one sitting, then start all over again to catch what they missed the first time. There’s a lot happening in this book, both in the burning mind of the main character and in the pyro action described on the page.” It worked for me: this book kept me turning pages furiously, locked in Reece’s struggle with his demons and pulled along by his fierce, fiery love for his family.

When Reece Johnston was a boy, a fire destroyed his home, killing his mother and brothers while leaving him scarred for life. It also kindled something dark inside him: an irresistible attraction to flames in all their terrifying, tantalizing power. But after two failed arson attempts—and ...

A lovable chef, a sudden inheritance, and a relentless billionaire are just a few of the tasty ingredients in Flirting with Felicity. But what really makes this novel stand out are its decadent descriptions, which had me salivating over the protagonist’s culinary creations—and her handsome adversary. If you’re anything like me and enjoy your stories savory, you’ll love delving into this multilayered romance that comes with a heaping side of escapism.

Though Felicity Wright’s dream seems to come true when she inherits the hotel and restaurant where she serves as head chef, it turns out she must go toe-to-toe with sexy Blake Bancroft, the nephew of the late owner, if she doesn’t want that dream to deflate like an ill-timed soufflé.

Award-winning author Gerri Russell debuts her contemporary-fiction chops with this deliciously written winner. The fact that the novel is set in Seattle—Gerri’s and my current hometown—is just the icing on a wicked triple-chocolate truffle cake. Felicity’s happily-ever-after will please even the pickiest taste buds.

Felicity Wright never expected to inherit the hotel where she works as head chef. But now, she’ll do anything to keep the Bancroft Hotel operating—even if that means mixing it up with the late owner’s handsome nephew, Blake Bancroft. He’s here to challenge her unexpect...

Every so often, I read a manuscript that makes me forget where I am and what I am meant to be doing. Miramont’s Ghost had that exact effect on me. I dove so deeply into the settings—first in France in 1884, then moving to the town in Colorado they called “Little London”—that I began reading like I did in my bookstore clerking days, hungrily turning the pages and glaring at anyone who dared to interrupt me. I dreamt of reading it when I was engaged in mundane things like doing laundry or carpooling, even while I was cooking or shopping. It was that powerful.

And if that wasn’t enough, enter the final knockout punch. This tale is inspired by the real story of Miramont Castle in Manitou Springs, Colorado, which has been shrouded in mystery since it was abandoned in 1900, soon after it was built by a reclusive French priest.

At its heart, this is a ghost story and a tale about a little girl—Adrienne Beauvier—who is the apple of her grand-père’s eye. Ultimately, it’s about how Adrienne’s discovery of her own clairvoyance threatens to destroy her aristocratic family.

A throwback to classic gothic tales such as Daphne du Maurier’s Rebecca or Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The House of the Seven Gables, Hall’s retelling of Miramont’s history is the perfect book to immerse yourself in. Light a fire, grab a blanket and a cup of tea, and prepare to escape into this dark and chilling read, where the pages almost turn themselves.

Miramont Castle, built in 1897 and mysteriously abandoned three years later, is home to many secrets. Only one person knows the truth: Adrienne Beauvier, granddaughter of the Comte de Challembelles and cousin to the man who built the castle.Clairvoyant from the time she could talk, Adrienne& ...
