I turn around seeing a smirking Jim leaning by the door.
“So what if you did? Personal hygiene is of the essence, you know.” I state while he chuckles.
He eyes me unabashedly. “So, hot date tonight?”
“Yes. Very!” I reply with a smirk.
I go through my mental list one more time, gather my things and am almost out the door when I turn back remembering the gift which Jim held out. Smiling in appreciation I grab the gift bag and am on my way.
Walking into the restaurant, I fret hoping I’m not too late, I notice a woman in her late 40s sitting by the window seat and staring out at the abyss. By the slight drumming of her fingers you could tell she was getting impatient.
A smile breaks on my face as she glances at her watch for the third time in the past minute. Having felt I’ve tortured her long enough I walk up to her and place a kiss on her cheek.
“You're late.” She says. “I’m sorry' mom.” Before I could continue further her cell phone rings, “Yes dear. She’s here.” She smiles as something my husband says to his mother amuses her.
“Alright, alright. I’ll see you soon. Yes, love you too.”
With that she hangs up, a second or two passes before we burst out laughing. She wipes a stray tear. “Jim?” I ask. “Jim.” She replies. We continue laughing and talking about our days and how we manage to evade our husbands every year just so we can have this special time together. Who said a mother-in-law couldn’t be your mother?
“Happy Mother’s Day, mom.” She smiles and replies “You too, love.”
I hand her the bag she’s been gushing over the past few days since she saw it on Eminent. Her expression and delight was priceless.
So this mother’s day, why not gift your mothers a special something? Wishing you all a Happy Mother’s Day from Eminent!
