Please join us Friday 31 January, 6-9pm for the opening of our inaugural programme at our new permanent location in Antwerp.

Situated in the street-facing entrance of a graphic design studio and living space, in 2025, BOOOOOKS presents a programme of consecutive presentations of independent publishing practices, running alongside a year-long cycle of cumulative displays of the practice of artist Aaron Harris.

For the first exhibition instalment running from January 31 through March 14, BOOOOOKS presents two parallel presentations by Aaron Harris (Antwerp) and Good Neighbour (Amsterdam).

Good Neighbour is a research platform based in Amsterdam since 2017, run by artist Martin La Roche, designer Dongyoung Lee, and researcher Valeria Marchesini. Good Neighbour defines itself primarily as a community of readers who share a communal interest in books seen as performative tools.

The name 'Good Neighbour' is inspired by Aby Warburg's Law of the Good Neighbour', a continuous system of thematic and serendipitous arrangements between books in a library

Good Neighbour doesn't seek to build a library; it makes time for appreciating existing ones

For the first exhibition instalment running from January 31 through March 14, BOOOOOKS presents two parallel presentations by Aaron Harris (Antwerp) and Good Neighbour (Amsterdam).

Aaron Harris is a painter based in Antwerp. Originally trained as a graphic designer, his works capture details and snapshots of places and objects, often featuring or alluding to traces of human touch.

Good Neighbour (GN) is a research platform based in Amsterdam since 2017, run by artist Martin La Roche, designer Dongyoung Lee, and researcher Valeria Marchesini.

GN defines itself primarily as a community of readers who share a communal interest in books seen as performative tools.

The name ‘Good Neighbour’ is inspired by Aby Warburg’s ‘Law of the Good Neighbour’, a continuous system of thematic and serendipitous arrangements between books in a library. GN doesn’t seek to build a library; it makes time for appreciating existing ones.

From Bo Wielders' selection of titles 'non-cities inside cities', taken from our temporary bookshop for our reading room.

Forming part of an ongoing interest in private and public spaces made by and for people, and conflicts between the individual and society. Initial ideas began on Wright's residency at the British School at Athens in 2016 which have since developed into a body of work that draws out relationships between shared identities, cultures and trade as well as individualism, society and responsibility, with particular focus on an Athenian engineer and his vacant Shopping Centre 'Rea'.

From Bo Wielders' selection of titles 'non-cities inside cities', taken from our temporary bookshop for our reading room.

Slow Reading Club (SRC) is a semi-fictional reading group initiated by Bryana Fritz and Henry Andersen in late 2016. The group deals in constructed situations for collective reading. SRC looks at, probes, and interrupts ‘readership’ as a way to stimulate the contact zones between reader and text, text and text, reader and reader.

The bookshop and reading room are open until 18:00.

The Grey Book
Annie Naskyd

€22,50 available in store or DM

Published by SO-RI, Antwerp, 2022.

Printed in Black, Fluor. Orange, Green and Purple.
19.5x26cm, 52 pages.

From Bo Wielders' selection of titles 'non-cities inside cities', taken from our temporary bookshop for the reading room.

The grey book delves into the principles of permaculture gardening and how they can be applied to contemporary urban design. It highlights the issue of soulless urban spaces that are filled with decorative trees and plants which fail to contribute to the local ecosystem.

Annie created a series of graphic illustrations that correspond to the sourced text in the book. She constructed each image using 10 distinct 'pixels,' placing them one by one until the picture was ‘complete’.

The bookshop and reading room are open until 21:00.

A Reading List celebrates the production and dissemination of knowledge through the act of independent, experimental and artist-led publishing. The project involves a range of publishing, archiving, print and distribution practices by artists, curators, designers and art workers; bringing these into relation and dialogue via the realisation of the bookshop and reading room at Violet.

The space aims to open up new connections through live processes of encounter and exchange around printed matter, where visitors can engage and think with the material in the space. There are opportunities to connect, correspond and collaborate during the public programme and over the four-week duration of the project.
