If you look at the back of a Boon bottle, you’ll see the recommendation to store it upright rather than on its side. It is a practical approach for one of the largest producers in Lambiekland, aimed at making cellaring and serving easier for most drinkers. Boon also does not use baskets. If you pour the bottle out in one steady, continuous motion, there is no need for a basket to manage sediment. Boons philosophy has always been to keep things accessible, not to add steps that could complicate the enjoyment for the average drinker.
That said, there is a small bit of basket history here. In the 1980s, Frank had a limited run of branded baskets made. They were cheaply produced and only a small number ever made it into circulation. I have talked with Frank many times about basket culture, and while he chooses not to use them, I understand and respect the reasoning. Cheers to 50 years, Frank, Karel, and Jos 🍾 🥂 Oude Geuze Apogee 2019 drinking lovely 👌🏻😋
