🇧🇪 TWIF ATHLETE OF THE YEAR NOMINEE — WIM DE SCHUTTER 🇧🇪
Why Wim De Schutter?
Simply because Tug of War is the ultimate team sport.
And in a true team sport, it isn’t the puller who is the most flamboyant, has the best haircut, or wants the spotlight who deserves recognition.
It’s the athlete who gives everything for the team.
No Ronaldo. No Messi.
In Tug of War, it’s the athlete who never asks to be put on the team — he simply shows up to training. Each time. Every time.
It’s the athlete who doesn’t complain about the ground, the other pullers, or the other teams. Instead, he keeps his mouth shut, listens to the coach, and does whatever the team needs.
It’s the athlete who doesn’t want to shine individually, but wants to do everything possible for the team.
The one doing the talking on the rope — not the one complaining to the coach.
That’s real Tug of War.
Count yourself out for the team.
And Wim De Schutter is exactly this kind of puller.
For 30 years, Wim has represented Belgium and his teams at the highest level — consistently putting the team first and helping create the results that have brought home medals and international success.
🏆 4 World Games appearances
• 2013 — Cali, Colombia

• 2025 — Chengdu, China

Wim has represented every Belgian team that competed at the World Games, including the qualification team.
And his commitment goes far beyond the World Games.
🇧🇪 30 YEARS REPRESENTING BELGIUM
Wim has represented his team and the Belgian national team for 30 consecutive years, without missing a single year at the World Championships and European Championships.
His international achievements include:
🏆 2009 — Holland Open, 680 kg
🏆 2023 — Switzerland Closed Men, 640 kg
🏆 2024 — Mannheim Open Mixed, 580 kg
🏆 2024 — Mannheim Mixed, 580 kg
🏆 2024 — Mannheim Closed Men, 640 kg
🏆 2025 — Nottingham World Championships, Open Mixed, 580 kg
But the medals only tell part of the story.
Wim’s greatest achievement is what he represents as a teammate.
Making the puzzle fit.
Putting the team before yourself.
Doing the job that needs to be done.
Showing up, every time.
Giving everything for the people beside you on the rope.
That is what Tug of War is about.
That is what a true teammate looks like.
Wim De Schutter.
🇧🇪 THAT’S TUG OF WAR AT ITS FINEST! 🇧🇪
