Here are 5 innovative contemporary luthiers who I think you should know about:
1: Joseph Curtin, developed the 'curtin rig' pioneering acoustic measurements and innovating with his ultralight instruments.
2: Samuel Zygmuntowicz, famous for his strad 3d project and tonal copies.
3: David Rivinus, pinacle of ergonomic lutherie with his assymmetrical violins.
4: Sebastian Gonzalez, PhD, currently working on computational luthiery
5: Tim Duerinck, PhD, working with new materials for increased durability and acoustic properties.
I am definitely missing some women/diversity here, because some of the best contemporary luthiers are women!
I thought about adding Carleen Hutchins, but then I'm going down the road of non-living makers. Who should we add to the list?
what are your additions?
