RBGxDD, the inaugural release for indie-label Uno Loop Records, is one of these albums. The LP is the beginning of a collaboration between two virtuosos you’ll want to keep an eye (and ear) on: producer Abderraouf B Grissa (Pink Siifu, Abstract Abder on Radio alHara) and drummer/producer Dan Drohan (Nick Hakim, Olden Yolk, CARRTOONS, Andrew VanWyngarden of MGMT).

Think CAN, Makaya McCraven, Sun Ra, or Madlib, and you’ll scratch the surface of what this LP has to offer, what it reminds you of, what it’s inspired by. Grissa says of its creation, “what began as a clear cut, beat-album featuring blistering acoustic drums evolved into a fluid, sonic journey that throws time- signature and structure to the wind.” RBGxDD is an album that expands the notion of how live instrumentation and sampling can continually innovate in unexpectedly catchy ways. “Benjamin Herman is always looking for different approaches to make records, and with his new trio – bassist Thomas Pol, drummer/producer Jimmi Jo Hueting and himself – he has established a great synergy. To immerse themselves into Tokyo’s hyper-eclectic musical underbelly was too enticing a prospect to ignore. Minds were ceaselessly and consistently blown in districts like Shimokitazawa and Koenji where underground scenes in the city continue to flourish. Noise artists, freejazz anarchists, math punk outfits... each murky basement a Pandora’s Box of surprising genre-shattering sounds.
Enraptured and infected, Herman, Hueting and Pol found a box of their own to explore their own out-of-the-box mentality to music. Under the deft hands of analog recording sage Akihito Yoshikawa at his Studio Dede – the trio bundled their collective chops to forge fresh sounds through time-honored means. Joining them are some of the most esteemed names in Japanese music, namely venerated composer/jazz musician Otomo Yoshihide and tenor sax maverick Tomoaki Baba – who stole thunder on the soundtrack of Tachikawa Yuzuru’s Blue Giant (2023).
Trumpet plauer Shinpei Ruike returned to perform (after playing on Herman’s album Nostalgia Blitz), as well as two accomplished practitioners of traditional Japanese woodwinds: Akihito Obama on shakuhachi and Ko Ishiwaka on sho. Having such riches in energy and eclecticism bore almost too much fruit. Through live instrumentation, sampling and recording – Herman and his hermanos enter a collective space of feeling, where styles like freejazz, noise and new wave coalesce within the same express lane. It became an album where friendships translate into a tapestry of distinct sounds and sensibilities, bundled together in a chaotic, high rolling adventure. ”

BOLBEC - FOUTU FELIN

…” Following directly from their debut Victime De L’aube, Foutu Félin feels like a continuation rather than a departure, a second reel instead of a reset. Axel Concato and Barth Corbelet each wrote five pieces independently, deliberately exploring as instinctively and introspectively as possible before reshaping their embryonic ideas together into bigger, brighter compositions, uncovering hidden humour along the way.

Cinema remains Bolbec’s primary language. “We always think in movie scenes”,, they explain. Barth points to Alberto Iglesias as a key influence, while Axel draws inspiration from the melodic logic of film scores from the 60s to the 80s, where characters carried themes and melody mattered as much as atmosphere. In contrast to contemporary soundtrack trends that prioritise texture over tune, Bolbec consciously foreground melody, harmony and rhythm in search of a personal musical signature.”…

“Cosmic Ear is a new group bringing together Christer Bothén, Mats Gustafsson, Goran Kajfeš, Kansan Zetterberg and Juan Romero. Their debut album TRACES is released by We Jazz Records on 23rd of May, 2025. Including 6 deep cuts, TRACES is an album that sees Cosmic Ear tracking down the “traces” of the legendary Don Cherry’s legacy while paving their own way in contemporary creative music expression.

Christer Bothén, a collaborator with Don Cherry during his Swedish period in the 1970s, brings depth to the history of the band, while his bandmates each belong at the top of the game in Scandinavian jazz. Their music is meditative and deep, much recommended for fans of the likes of Don Cherry, Alice Coltrane, and Pharoah. That being said, listeners should approach Cosmic Ear only with openness and curiosity, without set stylistic boundaries, as it’s the group’s natural flow and togetherness that brings their music into a fresh territory of their own.

As John Corbett writes in his liner notes:

“The Cosmic Ear. Five souls, sometimes six, on the same road. The pied piper path of Mr. Cherry. Christer Bothén, one of Cherry’s main collaborators in his Swedish period and one of the most beautiful bass clarinetists on planet earth, together with next-gen saxophonist Mats Gustafsson, who has carried so many torches in Cherry’s procession, and younger Swedish stars trumpeter Goran Kajfes, bassist Kansan Zetterberg, and percussionist Juan Romero. Together a tempo is set, a path is charted. There are global grooves. A berimbau, a karignan (metal scraper from Guinea), donso n’goni. There are ET grooves. Synth, live-electronics, slide flute. The globe is a glove, a hand warmer that radiates with extraterrestrial power, returning the fingers to their place at the center of the galaxy; the Cherry path is a balm that restores essential moisture to the lips that blow life back into the megacosm. Let us all praise warm fingers and moist mouths.” “

JEFF PARKER ETA IVTET - HAPPY TODAY

Happy release day !

“Happy Today, the third album from guitarist/bandleader Jeff Parker’s long-running ETA IVtet, was recorded live at Lodge Room in Los Angeles on August 20, 2025. This fresh entry into the IVtet’s catalog captures Parker and the band – including drummer Jay Bellerose, bassist Anna Butterss, and saxophonist Josh Johnson – on record outside of the now-shuttered Highland Park micro-club ETA for the first time.

The performance also captures a distinctly joyful night of togetherness set against the backdrop of dark times. “2025 was a very difficult year for me and my family,” Parker says. “Dealing with being displaced from the Eaton fires for eight months, and the kind of toll that that instability took on my family’s mental health and general outlook, coupled with Donald Trump being back in office and basically making life miserable for everyone… There was a lot of sadness and despair. But feeling the sense of community that we created with our concert, and later hearing the recording, seeing the beautiful footage that had been shot and the photographs of such joy to be back in that space and to be making music again: It was a very happy moment. So I called the record Happy Today. It’s meant to be a statement of joy.””…
