SB26STAC vs. SB26STCN

These two SB Acoustics tweeters are the first in a series of new driver measurements I will publish on the website. I will probably use some of them in future moderately priced loudspeaker designs.

Measurements: SB Acoustics SB15NRXC30-4

Overall this is a low distorting mid-woofer. We have the expected relatively harmless elevated second-order harmonics due to the cone edge resonance.

3-3.5kHz is about the highest suitable cross-over frequency for this mid-woofer. Good performance for a low priced mid-woofer.

The mid-woofer has a 30.5mm voice-coil with a healthy 10mm (p-p) linear coil travel. It has a very low voice-coil inductance and is fitted with a copper sleeve on the pole piece to ensure a low distortion performance.

Measurements: SB Acoustics SB26STCN-C000-4

Average odd-order distortion performance even at higher levels and somewhat elevated second-order distortion, which gradually raises below 2.5kHz. This tweeter delivers a high performance in relation to its low price.

This tweeter should be able to work nicely crossed-over at 2.5-3kHz or higher.

The SB Acoustics SB26STCN-C000-4 is a 4Ω coated textile dome tweeter using a Neodymium magnet and a 1” voice coil together with copper cap pole piece. The compact 72mm faceplate is made of plastic.
