Steady Company
Just before the uplift
we stopped up on the rise,
taking in fresh daylight
and last night’s sighs;
Steady company’s arrival
saw the climb take it’s toll,
dog’s tongue thrashing
his efforts pure gold.
This band unbroken
resting ‘fore thrust
eyes here on the prize
the gathering a must;
Drive to the evening
then rest to break of day,
steady company, steady,
‘tis just the drover’s way!
