HAB Consultation Meeting with Khoma Kishuthara Weavers and Gangzur Pottery Group

The Handicrafts Association of Bhutan (HAB) held a consultation meeting with the Khoma Kishuthara Weavers and the Gangzur Pottery Group to support our artisans and strengthen their craft businesses.

1. Market Access & B2B Linkages
Connecting producers with hotels, retailers, tour operators and potential buyers.

2. Product Development & Innovation
Developing new designs and diversifying product lines while preserving traditional craftsmanship.

3. Pricing & Production
Discussing costing, quality, production capacity and market demand.

4. Capacity Building
Identifying training needs in design, packaging, branding and digital marketing.

Development of the National Handicrafts Strategy

The Handicrafts Association of Bhutan (HAB) is developing the National Handicrafts Strategy through consultations with relevant government departments, business associations, craft institutions, and craft producers.

A consultative workshop was recently conducted in Paro with around 20 participants to review key issues and gather recommendations for strengthening the strategy.

The consultation process began with sharing the first draft during HAB’s 15th AGM, followed by focus group discussions with 12 business associations and individual consultations with relevant government departments and stakeholders. The revised strategy is expected to undergo a validation workshop in November 2026.

Through this collaborative process, HAB aims to develop a practical and inclusive strategy to preserve Bhutan’s rich handicraft heritage and promote sustainable growth of the handicraft sector.
