INTERIOR. LEDUMANG, THUSKA'S PLACE, GABORONE - DAY

Thuska is alone in the sitting room, his one leg is rested on the coffee table. He has stitches on his face, his skin is bruised. The television is on but Thuska seems drifted away by his thoughts. A knock startled him, his couch is close to the window he jumps up and groans as he peeks outside. Making sure he is not spotted he slightly moves the curtain. His tension calms...he walks to the door and opens...

THUSKA

O batlang?

(He checks outside.)

Tsena!

CHOPIRO

Sure grootman. Eish ne ba bua majita mo kasi, ne ke sa itse gore ne ba raya o gobetse jaana.

(Thuska walks to the couch and sits, he grabs the remote and flips through channels without looking a bit at Chopiro.)

THUSKA

Go bua mang?

(Now, feeling a bit welcome, Chopiro takes a seat.)

CHOPIRO

Eish hardie brayam, dilo tsa leng kante?

THUSKA

(He now looks at Chopiro.)

Black o kae?

CHOPIRO

Ah Black ga ke ise ke kopane le ene fandag. Ga ise a tsene jaana?

THUSKA

(Agitated)

Tlabo ke go boletsang gore o kae!

(He keeps changing channels.)

Wa re o batlang?

CHOPIRO

(He takes out 200p**a notes out of his pocket.)

Spane se ke neng ke se tshwere se fedile...

(Thuska looks at the cash Chopiro is holding.)

THUSKA

How much is that?

CHOPIRO

Ke 2 gran bra, mara o ka ichekela...

(Chopiro hands the cash to Thuska who starts counting.)

THUSKA

(Pauses.)

A shorta ka 200 p**a...

(He looks at Chopiro.)

A mangwe a kae? Akere wa re spane se o neng o se tshwere se fedile...

(Chopiro looks at the cash in Thuska's hand.)

CHOPIRO

No Thuska...zaka tseo ke 2 gran. Ke sure...

(Thuska throws the cash on the table and looks at Chopiro.)

THUSKA

O batla go ntlwaela Chopiro!

(Chopiro starts calculating the 200 p**a notes scattered on the coffee table.)

Nkadime phone ke leletse Black...

(Chopiro unpockets his phone and hands it to Thuska.)

CHOPIRO

A tshwanetse go dira 2 gran...

THUSKA

(Takes the notes from Chopiro. He takes a few on top of the table.)

O tla tsaa phone ya gago o tlisitse zaka yam...

(He puts the phone and the cash in his

pocket and continues watching the TV. Chopiro sits as words only remain in his mind. He looks at Thuska...)

CHOPIRO

Ao brayam...o nzalla phone?

THUSKA

Bona Chopiro...o tla tsaa phone ya gago fa o tlisa 200 p**a yo shortang.

(Chopiro stands, knowing he cannot do much, he walks towards the door. He stops before leaving.)

CHOPIRO

No a gona stress brazen, ke tla bona gore ke dira jang ke batle 200 p**a wa gago.

(Thuska keeps quiet as he looks at him leave the house.)

MEANWHILE...

There is a spot, a house that looks hardly used or have residents. It's one of the abandoned houses in Gaborone. Razor walks in and finds four young guys waiting inside the cracked house...

RAZOR

Anything from that Thuska idiot?

(Black stands...)

BLACK

No boss...motho yole o lapile. Ga itse sepe...

(Razor looks at the other two guys: it's

Thuska's workers...)

THUSKA'S WORKER 1

How far brazene?

RAZOR

We got work to do...we have to get rid of any ways that can lead him to us, well to me.

THUSKA'S WORKER 2

Ra utlwa motsadi, but how far with the stuff...re bona zaka leng?

RAZOR

Not until it's safe to spend the money. You young boys always slip-up once le bona madi. You all will have to wait for a while, make sure it clears off first.

BLACK

Ah brazene...sa le re letile, le gompieno, same story...

RAZOR

Bona...

(Remembers)

Black, right?

(Black nods. Razor walks closer to him.)

RAZOR (CONT'D)

This is a very tricky game. It's either you trust me or you don't, but then again if you don't trust me I guess ga o tshepe the way I run things here...

(He stares at Black.)

Are we going to have a problem with that, Black?

(Black shakes his head, he looks at the others in the room, all keep quiet...)

BLACK

O go a nna jalo motsadi...

RAZOR

Good!

(Looks at Thuska's worker.)

You two, keep a close eye on him. Everyone will have a share of their work. Remember we play it safe, we run it!

(Black peeks outside, they all prepare to leave the house except Razor. He looks at Black and beckons...)

BLACK

(Approaches)

Sho bro...?

RAZOR

(Collars Black.)

Don't ever do that again. You already got yourself into this, don't get cold feet because Thuska is your boy. You hear me?

(Black chokes on his saliva for a moment.)

BLACK

Sa la ke emisitse botsala jwa me le Thuska...o ntsaa jaaka bari.

RAZOR

(Releases his grip.)

Well...good!

(One of Thuska's employers gestures with his hand at the door. Razor walks towards him and nods. He glances outside before walking out of the abandoned house. Razor, walks across the street, leisurely walks down the street to his car parked along the curb.

Back inside the abandoned house, Black is pacing around...)

BLACK

Ah don dae ! kante ene o tsaa gore ke mang...

(Thuska's other employee looks at him...)

THUSKA'S WORKER 2

O bua vare Black. This guy is full of himself.

(He looks at the young man who has been sitting on the couch armrest the whole time.)

Kana jang ntwana...?

(The young man cowers in the couch, he doesn't know what to say as he keeps looking around the room.)

(Thuska's worker 2 peeks through the broken window. RAZOR IS OUT OF SIGHT!)

THUSKA'S WORKER 2

What if ne a le reeditse dimatla ke lona! How do you plan on doing something yet you can't get past the first step...ALWAYS CHECK IF THEY ARE AROUND!

(He walks towards them...)

Razor o spanela Bra Seleka. Ke sure all of you have met that man...

(The young man nods his head.)

Razor is his most loyal servant. What do you think will happen if he finds out we did something to Razor...huh?

(They all keep quiet. The young man remembers Rre Seleka's gun pointed at Thuska...a memory that makes him fidgety.)

BLACK

(At the young man)

Jaanong wena?

YOUNG MAN

Bra Shilo o bua nnete...

(Shudders)

Bra yele ke terror straight dibra tsame eish.

THUSKA'S WORKER 2

(He looks at his workmate then at Black.)

Ba a itse...

(Walks towards the door)

Best ntse re tswa dah. Zaka ya rona e tla goroga malaitiak...tse dintsi a re tsweng mo

go tsone.

(He opens the door, the young man walks towards it as well. They leave, Thuska's employer 1 follows them. Black stands and watches as they walk to the street. They take separate directions. Thuska's employers walking towards the same direction. The young man disappears between houses. Black finally leaves...)

EXTERIOR. THE CHILUME RESIDENCE, TUTUME - SAME TIME

The old woman is under a shade. She is with her age mate and friend, they are having a conversation about Rre Fidzani's family event that happened a week ago.

Taboka walks in the yard. He is trying to walk normal but stumbles and avoids their eyes. They all look at him as he stumbles to his

hut.

Just as he reaches the entrance...

OLD WOMAN

Kwa tini o si nga ende zwibuyanana wali? Wa bo u si ngati no enda ko Gaborone wali?

(Taboka says nothing and walks inside his hut. The old woman gets up and steadily walks to Taboka's room. She stands at the door and looks at him, he is laying on the bed...)

OLD WOMAN (CONT'D)

DICHOMI

🔴 Episode 26

A WEEK LATER;

Detective Puso has found success in his second arrest, only difference was that his second arrest of Dema Chakalisa, Kagiso Dintwa, Lame Wilson and Theo Seleka, was an official arrest. The friends stand on charge of hit and run, causing a man his life and driving under the influence of alcohol.

FOUR UNIVERSITY OF BOTSWANA STUDENTS HAVE BEEN ARRESTED IN CONNECTION WITH THE HIT AND RUN LEAVING A MAN DEAD THAT HAPPENED MONTHS AGO.

It reads on the Mmegi newspaper, open between Rre Seleka's hands. He is in his

office. It had been a week of calls and questions surrounding Rre Seleka on his son's arrest. A man of his stature, must make all this disappear before it gets out of hand. He thought.

Rre Seleka calls the officer in charge:

ON THE PHONE:

RRE SELEKA

Who made the arrests?

OFFICER IN CHARGE

(Reluctant to say)

Detective Puso...

RRE SELEKA

(Angrily)

The same detective...I told you last time when I call again I want it handled. This shouldn't have happened Sheriff! Now you're going to have to do something about that Detective and the case. Clear my son's name out of the case, otherwise I will handle it myself...

OFFICER IN CHARGE

I will have a word with the detective. It should clear off soon.

(Rre Seleka ends the call. Officer in charge leaves his office and walks inside a room next to the interrogation room. He watches and listens through the glass.)

INTERIOR. INTERROGATION ROOM, BROADHURST POLICE STATION, GABORONE

- MORNING

The four friends are yet again back inside the room they know very well. It is quiet...four of them facing the detective on the other side of the table.

DETECTIVE PUSO

Do you kids know what it really means being here?

(The four friends who have not seen each other in a week, all keep quiet.)

We have been through this before...the silent treatment but here you are back in my little room.

(No words from either the friends.)

DETECTIVE PUSO

You three...

(Points at Kagiso, Lame and Dema)
..are under arrest for involving yourselves in carrying and hiding a dead man's body.

(He looks at Theo.)

You are under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol leading to the hit and run that caused a man his life. How long that should be? Well it's up to the courtroom to decide that.

(The friends now realises what this could mean. Their futures are already crumbling as tears build up on Lame's eyes. Dema keeps shaking his head and moving his legs a lot. Kagiso looks at Lame.)

THEO

What? I didn't do anything!

DETECTIVE PUSO

(At Theo)

Well tell that to the house of law. I'm just doing my job here kid.

(The room darkens for the four friends. The trio, Kagiso, Lame and Dema avoid Theo's eyes all the time.)

THEO

Are you serious...my father is a lawyer, he will get me out of this. He will sue you!

DETECTIVE

Your father I guess you mean Rre Seleka? Kid, you can say all that in the courtroom. Your friends confessed that you were driving that night from a party and forced them to do your evil deeds because you threatened them.

(Theo looks at his friends in shock; he can't find words to say or maybe does not know how to say them.)

THEO

(Looks at Lame)

Lame...you know I wasn't driving that night. How could I have been driving when I had so much alcohol.

(Looks at Dema)

Dema tell him!

(Dema keeps quiet.)

KAGISO

You didn't want any of us to drive your car that night.

DETECTIVE PUSO

Do you usually drive his car?

KAGISO

No...

(Kagiso slightly nudges Lame under the table.)

LAME

No...I have never driven his car.

DEMA

Le nna...le yone licence I don't have it detective.

THEO

Ao monna Kagiso...

(Looks at the detective)

I don't even remember how I got that bumper damaged Detective. Kagiso was too eager to get it fixed maybe he knows something...

(Detective Puso looks at all of them.)

DETECTIVE PUSO

It will be best if you cooperate with the law authorities. It will be quite important for all of you. What you kids did is cruel...you should

have just contacted the police but you took a wrong choice and this is what you deal with.

(Detective Puso leaves the friends in the room. The officer in charge leaves the room and meets him on the hallway.)

OFFICER IN CHARGE

I need a word with you detective.

DETECTIVE PUSO

I'm just doing my job...I believe we already talked about it.

(The detective walks away leaving the officer in charge in the hallway. He watches the detective walk to his office.)

(Inside the interrogation room, Theo is looking at his friends in disbelief.)

THEO

Why are you not telling the truth...why are you doing this?

(They keep quiet...)

Lame?

DEMA

I think they might be listening...

THEO

Monna Dema I don't care. You guys probably know what happened. I didn't hit no man!

KAGISO

Just keep quiet...you will only make it worse.

THEO

You got to be kidding me! After this I'm making a call to my father. This is not right.

KAGISO

Atleast you have a rich father who will get you out...as for us we don't have that kind of support system.

THEO

Atleast I don't listen to a piece of s**t like you Kagiso. Now it makes sense why you all have been acting really suspicious whenever I'm with you. You know what happened to that man, the three of you.

KAGISO

A ko o didimale...

THEO

(Angrily)

Don't tell me gore ke didimale. F**k you...all of you. Nxa!

LAME

(Softly)

Theo please keep quiet. This is not helping.

THEO

Not helping who! What do you mean when you and Dema are bossed around by this low-life guy.

(Kagiso jumps up of his seat. Theo stands as well. The two shove each other.)

KAGISO

Don't call me a low-life. O batla go ntlwaela ne mona Theo!

LAME

Just stop please, the two of you! We are in a police station and you guys want to fight...

THEO

Didimala wena akere o ikanegile mo selong se...

(Points at Kagiso)

DEMA

Ah you need to take it easy...o buisa yo mongwe jang.

LAME

Guys just stop.

The quarrels continue, the standing guard officer opens the door and shuts them up. They take sits but with more spaces between them. It's as if the friendship is coming to an end as they all don't look at each other. Deep in their thoughts about what the detective just said to them. The three, Kagiso, Lame and Dema realise everything could have been different that night if they acted accordingly but it's too late now, lies on top of lies, betrayal. The trust is slowly vaporising between the friends.

I'm going to prison. It's all Lame is thinking.

I've let my grandmother down. It's all Dema is thinking...

I can't be a murderer, no ways...I didn't hit and run over that man! All Theo is thinking.

As for Kagiso, it's as if it has not hit him hard about going to jail. How he really feels about Theo is starting to show.

🔴 Episode 25

ON THE PHONE:

KAGISO

Hello! Lame...

LAME

Hey...

KAGISO

Ao mma gatwe hey...go rileng?

LAME

I can't talk right now.

KAGISO

Come to my place, we will talk.

LAME

I really can't Kagiso. I think it's best if we don't see each other for a while...

(Pauses)
..maybe it's best for now.

(There is silence.)

KAGISO

Hello...Lame! Hello!

(He looks at the phone screen. LAME ENDED THE CALL!)

INTERIOR. THE WILSON HOUSEHOLD, TAUNG, GABORONE - MORNING

Mrs Wilson walks out of her room. She knocks on Lame's door and opens it. Lame is in her bed...on her phone.

MRS WILSON

I hope you were not talking to those friends of yours...

(Her face is blank.)
..make Rorisang some breakfast. I have to go to UB.

(Ordering)

I should find you here when I get back.

(Lame groans slightly as she covers herself

with the blankets. Mrs Wilson leaves her room.)

INTERIOR. KAGISO'S PLACE, EXTENSION 27, GABORONE - SAME TIME

Kagiso is keeping himself warm in the sun outside. He is holding a cigarette in his hand and a phone in the other. HE MAKES A CALL...

KAGISO

Ola mfana wam...

DEMA

Eitah K.G...go ntse jang?

KAGISO

Ah easy laitiak. Ncheke re tle re chill...

DEMA

Eish...I'm at my sister's place laitiak. It's going to be hard for me to leave the place. My grandmother and brother knows I was arrested so go dingalonyana. Might lay low for a while.

KAGISO

Ao monna...you're starting to sound like Lame mfetu. Vatsay?

DEMA

Melelo hela, ke tla bua le wena. Eish mfetu lucky enough Theo's father got us out of that situation.

(Chuckles lightly as if he is concealing his concern.)

Bona Kagiso, ke tla go leletsa.

(THE CALL ENDS. Kagiso looks at his phone screen and scrolls down his contacts list. THEO'S NAME ON THE SCREEN! He pauses and looks at it for a while, contemplating on making the call or not...one last inhale and he throws the filter on the ground. His pride won't let him, Kagiso pockets his phone.)

INTERIOR. LINGANI'S PLACE, PHASE 2 - CONTINUOUS

Lingani's house is a 2 beds servant's quarter. One room she uses as a sitting room, cosy and most space is occupied by two couches. Dema is laying on one of the couches, a fleece covering his chest and down to his feet. As if he hardly slept, his eyes are baggy...the television has been on MTV Base for the whole night.

Lingani walks inside the sitting room. She has a RocoMamas' uniform on. Dema quickly hides his phone, turns to the side and closes his eyes. Lingani walks towards the TV, she looks at Dema and turns it off...

LINGANI

Dema...

(Shoves him against the couch.)

Dema...Ndo enda ku nshingo. Ku na nthu wa fanila ku zha a wo lulwamisa dzi pipe. Ba no ziba be ngumba i mbeli, ba no ba zhulila ghede.

(She looks at him, his eyes are closed but not a good act enough to keep his eyelids steady.)

Muka o tshwaile ngumba.

(Lingani walks to the other couch, moves the cushion and finds her purse. She opens it, her face seems content. As if nothing is missing from it, she walks towards the door.)

Ha ndi to shaka bazwalani babo epapa. Ndo renter.

(Lingani leaves the room. Dema hears the keys turn on his sister's room door. He takes out his phone and starts composing a text :

Eish laitiak my sista wa bora blind le dilandlord tsa gagwe...and ga ke kgone go tswa cos a re sum plumber guy is coming here. Hardie laitiak, mayb nxt time ke boetse kasi...

Dema sends the text to Kagiso.)

EXTERIOR. LEDUMANG, GABORONE - DAY

After making a couple of calls without success, Detective Puso has made his way to the township. He reaches Thuska's place, it's a low cost BHC house, but the painting is wearing off. He looks at the house and shakes his head.

The detective knocks on the door, a man opens...

DETECTIVE PUSO

O teng Thuska?

MAN

Ga ke sure waitse...o batliwa ke mang?

(Turns his head and shouts.)

THUSKA!

(At the Detective)

O batliwa ke mang bra?

(The man turns and shouts again.)

DETECTIVE PUSO

Tla ke mo cheke then...

MAN

Ah go lebega a seo.

(The detective walks in...he walks towards Thuska's room and knocks on the door.)

INTERIOR. LEDUMANG - CONTINUOUS

MAN (CONT'D)

DETECTIVE PUSO

(Peeks on the keyhole)

The key is in there....

(Looks at the door and BANGS!)

Bula Thuska!

(The housemate walks back to his room. After a few minutes, the door UNLOCKS. Thuska opens the door slightly...peeks with one eye. THE EYE HAS A BLACK SPOT AROUND IT!)

DETECTIVE PUSO

What the hell happened to your face?

(Thuska keeps quiet; he opens his door and walks steadily to the kitchen. The detective hears the faucet run as he stands overwhelmed with questions. Thuska walks back with a glass of water.)

THUSKA

O batlang Lance?

(He walks back inside his room, the detective follows and closes the door.)

DETECTIVE PUSO

I see you're having a rough day...you wanna tell me about it? Cos' clearly something is going on here. What is it?

THUSKA

Eish bona brayam ke kopa gore o tsamaye.

(He places the glass of water on the bedside table and crawls himself back on the bed.)

DETECTIVE PUSO

I'm the only person who can get you out of whatever you got yourself in. Looks like o paletswe so let me help you.

THUSKA

You being here is helping enough to get me killed!

DETECTIVE PUSO

(Stands by the bed)

What do you mean...is there someone after you? I mean the break-ins, the first beating, now this...I'm a detective after all Thuska.

THUSKA

No, you can't help bra!

DETECTIVE PUSO

Okay help me then. What else do you know about Rre Seleka?

(The detective picks something; Thuska looks away, avoiding eye contact, on closer look his chest expands heavily, and the detective could hear his heavy breathing.)

Are you connected with him somehow?

THUSKA

(lashes out)

Bona Mr leave my house...I can't help you

anymore. Always asking me ka that man!

DETECTIVE PUSO

Did he do this to you?

(Thuska jumps out of the bed. He pushes the detective towards the door and out of his room. )

DETECTIVE PUSO

Young one, help me help you...so much is happening and I know somehow you're involved in all of this. My gut tells me something is wrong brother.

THUSKA

Well maybe your gut should tell you to leave...!

(He gives his brother a look of despair.)

Stay away from that man detective.

(Thuska walks back inside the room and closes the door. The detective stands staring at the door on the other side. He goes for a knock but stops halfway. He leaves Thuska's place.)

MEANWHILE! Something else is happening on the other side of the city.

ON THE PHONE:

RAZOR

Boss I checked with the guys. Thuska's last name is Puso. Thusang Puso.

RRE SELEKA

Ah anything on that detective's name?

RAZOR

City's batman...Detective Puso Sir.

RRE SELEKA

Mmh interesting. Do you think they are related?

RAZOR

Not sure about that. Could just be different Pusos boss.

RRE SELEKA

Do you know how I managed to build my drug empire Razor...capitalised on the size of this city, even country. The smaller it is the easier it should be, so get to it because I'm paying you to be sure. Find out if they are related!

RAZOR

I'm on it Sir.

RRE SELEKA

Next time call me only if you have something on that.

RRE SELEKA ENDS THE CALL.

The feared man scrolls down his phone and makes a call.

ON THE PHONE:

RRE SELEKA

Good day sheriff...who is the detective handling that case with my son on it?

OFFICER IN CHARGE

Rre Seleka...what can I do for you?

RRE SELEKA

Ah my man, I want to know who is handling that case with Theo on it.

OFFICER IN CHARGE

Your son? Uhm It's Detective Puso...Detective Lance Puso. The detective you met at that garage.

RRE SELEKA

Good...

(Nods his head)

Good...you know what to do. Next time when

I call tell me you handled it Sheriff.

(As soon as Rre Seleka ends the call, the officer in charge gets a visitor to his office: Detective Puso. He is holding a file, confidential written on its body.)

DETECTIVE PUSO

(Drops the file on the officer in charge's table.)

What more evidence do you need? Those children have their fingerprints all over the man's body and they all confessed. The evidence is all in there. Procedure right...?

(The officer in charge looks at the file. The detective pulls out a paper and unfolds it. He holds it up towards the officer in charge's face.)

OFFICER IN CHARGE

What...who authorised this arrest warrant?

DETECTIVE PUSO

(Puts the arrest warrant back in his pocket and picks the file from the table. Leans in)

It's just procedure...someone once told me it helps keep you steady on your steps. I just took that advice. Now Sir, stay in your air conditioned, Wi-Fi equipped office while I do my job!

(Detective Puso turns and walks away. The officer in charge watches, realising there is nothing he can do.)

📌 SUBTITLES TO KALANGA DIALOGUES:

Dema...I'm going to work. Someone should come here to fix the pipes. Ba a itse ba ntlo ye e kopele le bone, ba tla mmulela gate.

Tsoga ebile o simolole go cleana.

(Lingani walks to the other couch, moves the cushion and finds her purse. She opens it, her face seems content. As if nothing is missing from it, she walks towards the door.)

I don't want your friends here. I'm renting.

Thuska and his friends are hanging out at one of his friends' place ; BASE, as they call it. The bunch is sitting inside the yard, in the dark. The only thing you can see is the cigarette burning in the dark, and they are playing music at a volume enough for the only bunch to hear, unless you are close enough to them.

BLACK

Eish! Utlwa katara mshishi...

(He slaps Chopiro in the back of his neck. Chopiro's head tilts forward, with a blunt in his mouth. He inhales a lot of smoke, and

suddenly moves the blunt away from his mouth...COUGHS!)

CHOPIRO

(Angrily)

Kante....

(COUGHS!)

Kante wena mona o rileng?

(COUGHS! COUGHS! COUGHS)

O tla mpolaisa zol ao mdala!

(He shoves BLACK, who bursts in laughter. Thuska's night is different from most of his friends' nights with him. He seems agitated...Thuska takes a puff.)

THUSKA

(Looks at the blunt between his fingers.)

BLACK

THUSKA

(Interrupts angrily)

Msunu wa lona! Jaanong ga le kgone go utlwa gore le fua zol yam. Wa re ke mang Stax, o e tsaa kae grade yame?

(Thuska is suddenly overwhelmed with questions. Desperate to track down his garage robbers who walked away with a handful of drugs and money; but he is only a foot soldier, having to pay the boss!)

THUSKA

A re o e tsaa kae?

(Black spots two young men walking in. He whistles, a sign that the two young men instantly get. They walk towards the three in the dark.

The two young men approach...)

YOUNG MAN 1

(Leans in)

Sho Black...skeif tamati big guy?

(Black looks at him with hesitation. He stands and looks over the yard wall, a small plastic bag is at his feet. Black reaches for the bag on his way down taking a seat.)

BLACK

Tamati?

YOUNG MAN 1

Esvaar...

(Black pulls out a sachet of w**d and hands it to the young man. He looks at the other as he takes the 20 p**a note from young man 1. The two leave the yard.)

BLACK

(To Thuska and Chopiro)
..big guy? Azanke custi tsame di mpitsa big guy. Bafana ba ke bo mang?

CHOPIRO

O ba bone ne mona...ke bo mang bone bale?

(They all stand and look over the wall. Black walks to the gate and checks, the young men have already disappeared in the township darkness.)

(Black walks back to Thuska and Chopiro. Thuska looks at him...)

THUSKA

A re ye go cheka Stax wa gago...

BLACK

Ah ke ntwananyana...vaa le Chopiro nna ke tla sala ke pusha spane se se setseng se.

(High on the w**d)

(He laughs.)

CHOPIRO

(Thuska looks at his friends quarrel. BLACK and CHOPIRO, best enemies and best friends

as Thuska always say to them. He turns and walks towards the gate. Meantime, there is a loud Vrr Phaa sound coming nearby, probably behind Black's yard....)

BLACK

Utlwa! Wa e gotlha mshimane...

CHOPIRO

(Clicks his tongue)

Ah kana ba thula batho bone ba ba dikwaba! Nxa.

(Thuska walks out the yard. He leaves his friends behind as he walks towards the turn joining the small gravel road to Stax's Base.)

(DISTANTLY he could hear his friends' words vanishing in the cold night wind.)

BLACK

Hee! Kante kgang yele ya gore mthaka yole wa gore ba mo thule ka koloi e heletse kae? E kile ya tlala blind, wa e bona? Wa go bonwa mo sekgweng mdala...

CONTINUES...

EXTERIOR. THE STREETS, LEDUMANG - CONTINUOUS

Down the street just after Thuska taking a turn, two young men emerge from the front. Thuska stays alert as he watches them

closely. He is only a couple of neighbourhoods away from his. What can happen here? It's his boys' hood, he is safe. So he thought.

As the two men approach, Thuska recognises their clothes but most of their facial features are covered. The same two young men at Black's were wearing the same clothes as the two who are now possibly an arm’s reach away from Thuska.

INSTANTLY! A car comes speeding from behind Thuska, whose mistake is looking at it. One hard hit on his face takes him down, breathing heavily as he spits out blood. Vision is blurry as he tries to get a good look at his attackers but only a size 10 boot to his face knocks him out. The heavily black tinted black Golf GTI pulls over, headlights brightens forward as the two young men carry Thuska to the car.

VRR PHAAA! the sound echoes in the neighbourhood as the car leaves....

BLACK'S PLACE

BLACK

Utlwa hlebanna! Must ke bue le Thuska a mpatlele VrrPha...!

CHOPIRO

Thuska o baakanya dikoloi ga a direkise ao. Mara o ka reka di rim le dithaere...tota gape o tlabo o isa kae dirim le dithaere ka ga o na koloi.

BLACK

Ga o itse dilo ka bontsi wena. O tle o mmotse fa a tswa ko go Stax ee...kante jaanong ene o

ile lwapeng...?

(Pauses and looks at Chopiro. He smiles.)
..gongwe o chekile Beauty kana.

(Chopiro sits smoking his blunt, as if he is trying to avoid Black's words. Not until Black starts laughing, they quarrel again!)

EXTERIOR. THE WOODS, GABORONE - CONTINUOUS

Thuska hears trees and leaves rustling as he regains consciousness. Not as if it’s not cold enough, water splashes on Thuska's half naked body. His top shivers as the water runs down his body...

RAZOR

Ah, setse o tsogile...good!

(Razor notices Thuska's eyes slowly opening. Thuska is finally conscious. They have him tied on a seat, only on his un**es. He looks around, it's nothing but unfamiliar congested trees, he struggles to keep his head up, he sees feet, 6 feet to his count. He slowly looks up; it's Razor and two young men...)

RAZOR (CONT'D)

You just keep attracting trouble Thuska. Where are the drugs and money?

(Thuska says nothing, he spits out blood and looks at Razor. Razor beckons to one of the young men. The young man punches Thuska on his stomach. Agonising pains fall on Thuska as he screams.)

RAZOR

(Looks at the two young men.)

I thought I am being very lenient with this guy. What do you think?

YOUNG MAN 2

O lenient Sir...

(Thuska looks around as if he is looking for an escape plan. Two cars are behind Razor and his minions.)

YOUNG MAN 1

Go batla the big boss.

RAZOR

(At Young Man 1)

So you're saying I'm too lenient youngling? Is that what you think...

(Razor approaches the young man and shoves him aside. He faces Thuska and starts punching him a couple of times...)

(A voice calls from behind...)

VOICE

Stop!

(Razor stops, he has blood on his fists. He collars Thuska and steps back. Thuska is coughing and more blood coming out of his mouth and nose...his head tilts to the side, he looks at the man approaching. His vision has not deceived him, he notices RRE SELEKA.)

RRE SELEKA

(As he approaches.)

Don't kill him Razor...not yet.

YOUNG MAN 2

(To Young man 1, he whispers)

Ba go mmolaya ne monna?

YOUNG MAN 1

(Whispers)

A ko o didimale ka dipotso. Wa vaya ntate fa o ka baesa. Didimala mfetu.

RAZOR

(At Rre Seleka)

He won't say anything Sir.

RRE SELEKA

(Nods)

Thuska, this is the second time we meet and both times have been bloody. What do you think will happen the third time we meet?

THUSKA

(COUGHS! COUGHS!)

Ah ga ke itse...

RRE SELEKA

(He moves his coat to the side and pulls out a pistol. Razor smirks as he looks at the pistol. The two young men look in awe, they both step back slightly as fear rushes all over their bodies.)

(Rre Seleka points the pistol at Thuska)

Then tell me why you got the police involved and who that detective is?

(Thuska does not hesitate...)

THUSKA

Bra yam...ga ke mo itse, mme fela ene o ne a le mo dilong tsa gagwe...

(COUGHS!)

RRE SELEKA

(Angrily)

What is he doing with my son?

THUSKA

Di investigation...ne ba kile ba tlisa koloi ko garageng. Rre wa lepodise o seka seka sengwe sa go nna jalo...

RRE SELEKA

So you should know his name...what is it?

THUSKA

(Weakly)

No...ga a le mpolella...

(Razor punches Thuska on his face. Rre Seleka puts his pistol away and walks closer to Thuska who is now fully covered with blood.)

RRE SELEKA

You stole my drugs and money, you know

what that means? I own you now. Best if you start acting right and get my fu***ng drugs and money back! If I ever hear about the police being at your garage, I will come after you. Wa utlwa...? Don't screw me over because Gabs is a small city, in fact, the whole of Botswana...

(Looks at Thuska with the devilish look on his eyes.)
..I will find you. Now you only have a week to get my drugs and money.

(Rre Seleka turns and walks towards the car. The car pulls back and leaves. Razor throws a couple of punches at Thuska.)

RAZOR

(At young man 1)

Bring the water bottle in the car.

(Turns to Thuska)

Maybe the boss forgot to mention this, if word comes out who did all this, you will be in deep trouble. Stay safe...

(Slightly slaps his cheek and drops the water bottle at his feet. Razor turns and walks to the car...)
..oh by the way, you're not that far from your garage. You will be okay.

(At young man 2)

Untie him and let's get out of here.

(The young man unties Thuska who drops to the ground. Thuska groans in pain, he watches them get in the car.)

INTERIOR. INSIDE THE CAR, THE WOODS - CONTINUOUS

YOUNG MAN 2

(At Razor)

Eish bra yam nna tota I didn't sign up for dincheza...

RAZOR

Well welcome to the big leagues. Next time stop with your whispering around the boss, you make me look bad in front of him with your amateurish tendencies.

(The car leaves the woods. Thuska lays helpless on the ground, the cold making his wounds even more painful. )
