Let's get informed and promote more compassion🤝🙏
Feature Friday
Mental illness involves a wide range of health conditions characterized by changes in emotions, thoughts, or behaviors (or a combination of these).
When our mental health is affected, it can result in distress and/or problems functioning in family, social, or work activities.
Some examples of mental illnesses include depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, eating disorders, and addictive behaviors.
It is important to recognize that just like physical ailments, mental illnesses are treatable. In most cases, symptoms can be effectively managed with a combination of medications and psychotherapy (talk therapy).
Still, even though mental health conditions are often stigmatized in society, mental illness does not discriminate, and neither should we. This is because it can affect anyone, regardless of gender, age, race, income, social status, sexual orientation, etc.
Therefore, together, we must break the stigmas and biases surrounding mental illnesses by increasing our awareness and understanding of these conditions and by supporting those coping with such medical challenges.
In doing so, we can promote a more compassionate and inclusive community that advocates for and emphasizes the importance of mental health.
