Why I Built BlueCycle Intelligence 🌊
As a Belizean national, I care deeply about our coastlines, our communities, and the future of the Caribbean.
And let’s be honest: sargassum is not exactly the kind of “seaweed welcome committee” anyone asked for. 😅
When large amounts reach the shore, the impact goes far beyond appearance. It can affect marine life, tourism, air quality, coastal businesses, cleanup crews, and the people who live near impacted areas.
That is why I created BlueCycle Intelligence.
Smarter data. Better preparation. 🛰️
BlueCycle Intelligence helps track sargassum movement, coastal risk, ocean currents, alerts, and seven-day outlooks across Belize and the wider Caribbean.
The goal is simple: help communities prepare before the problem is already sitting on the beach.
Instead of reacting at the last minute, resorts, municipalities, cleanup teams, tourism operators, and decision-makers can use better information to plan ahead.
Because “surprise, there are several tons of seaweed outside” is not a coastal management strategy. 🫠
This is also a health and environmental issue 🌱
When sargassum accumulates and begins to decompose, it can create strong odors, affect nearby air quality, disrupt marine environments, and make daily life harder for residents and workers.
So this is not only about protecting tourism.
It is about protecting:

🐠 Our marine ecosystems
🏘️ Our communities
👷 Our workers
💙 Our quality of life
From crisis to circular economy ♻️
Tracking sargassum is only the beginning.
My bigger vision is to help Belize and the Caribbean stop treating sargassum only as waste and begin exploring how it can become part of a responsible circular economy.
With proper testing, research, and processing, sargassum may support products such as:
🌱 Compost and soil enhancers
📦 Sustainable packaging
🧱 Bio-based materials
⚡ Renewable-energy applications
🧪 New research and innovation
👩🏽🔧 Local jobs and entrepreneurship
Of course, we cannot simply scoop it up, put it in a bag, and call it eco-friendly. Safety testing for salt, arsenic, heavy metals, and other contaminants must come first.
Serious problem. Serious science. Smarter opportunity.
Why Belize should help lead 🇧🇿
Belize understands this challenge firsthand.
We have beautiful coastlines, a tourism economy tied closely to nature, strong coastal communities, and talented people across technology, science, tourism, agriculture, and entrepreneurship.
We should not wait for someone else to build the solution for us.
We can help lead it.
BlueCycle Intelligence is my contribution to that effort—combining technology, data, environmental responsibility, and a belief in what Belize and the Caribbean can accomplish together.
