Operation Update Shed - Part 1
Spent the day working on the shed: emptying, unbolting my lathe, putting in new floor mats, raising and levelling lathe, and putting stuff back in.
Next step organizing, purging and generally making it more efficient and maybe a little more room. Big thanks to the kids for giving up their Saturday to help with the heavy lifting, carting and toting and generally anything we needed. And couldn’t have done it without hubby . . .

This lovely little jewelry pot has an opening for miscellaneous chains and things, while the removable top doubles as a ring holder. The bottom is chestnut and the top is figured maple with a wash of green alcohol ink in lacquer thinner - I love how the pattern shows through the colouring.

I turned this lovely dried flower vase from a piece of Cascara that I found in my stash of wood. As with much of my wood, I’m not sure where I got it from 🙂 although I wish I had remembered to take a photo of it before I rounded it out. The deeper I got into it the more the lovely grain and a little spalting came out. It was lovely to turn, felt soft and had no tear out which is always a bonus. It’s finished with wipe-on-poly satin and I’m very pleased with how it turned out. I also forgot to measure it, but I think it’s about 6 inches or so. I finished it off with partially dried lavender and red Japanese barberry from my garden. And yes I did trim off the lower thorns :-)

A little project I wanted to try was my version of a porcupine! Ended up looking like a little pig, so the "tooth-pig" was born - the wood is acacia and I made too many holes lol, so I filled some of them with a combination of gold flakes and resin. On retrospection, I should have gone wild and used blue or another totally contrasting color! This was super fun to do!
