When the Mission Hospice Society asked for a wine wall with a tropical paradise theme, I custom designed this wine rack wall from the ground up to match their vision.

From sourcing the piece, to sanding, painting, lighting, and full styling, every detail was intentionally designed to create a high-end, immersive feature for the event.

A big shoutout to Justin and Alyssa from Raising The Bar Events👏

While their business is bartending, they stepped in for the Mission Hospice Society Gala in a different role, joining the service team with Tony from The Fishing Panda Food Truck & Catering and supporting me on the floor as part of the front-of-house leadership.

They weren’t just helping, they were my seconds in managing service, making sure everything stayed elevated, efficient, and running smoothly throughout the night.

This is exactly what stood out: their level of experience. They were able to jump into a completely different role, adapt quickly, and still bring a high standard of service, professionalism, and great energy to the event.

Working alongside them and Tony from The Fishing Panda, it’s clear how strong this team is together! A well-oiled, high-efficiency group that knows how to execute events properly and always willing to raise the bar. The feedback from the Hospice Gala Council meant a lot! They shared that we did such amazing service it allowed them to relax, enjoy their event, and trust that everything was being handled.

That’s the difference. Guests feel taken care of, and clients get real peace of mind.

And while this event had them wearing a different hat, bartending is what they do best. If you’re looking for a bartending team that’s professional, adaptable, and truly easy to work with, I would absolutely recommend them.

Mission Hospice Society, Gala ✨🌴Tropical Paradise

This event was something very special.

DIY Wedding Helper was contracted by Tony from The Fishing Panda Food Truck & Catering to support this gala through part event coordination, planning, custom decor design, and full front-of-house service management. This is exactly where I thrive making order out of what could have been chaos.

From collaborating on the buffet design, dessert table, and creating the wine rack wall feature behind us, to managing staff, service flow, guest experience, and rental event setup. I stepped into every role needed to ensure this event ran seamlessly.

Because the truth is, great events don’t happen by accident.
They happen when people are willing to wear every hat necessary to make it all come together.

Tony and I went far beyond our original scope to make sure this night felt effortless, elevated, and meaningful for every guest in the room. I’m incredibly proud of what we all created together.

A huge thank you to the Mission Hospice society Gala Council, especially Siobhan, Courtney, and Lesley for trusting us with your vision. It was an honor to help bring it to life.

And to the community, Thank you for showing up and supporting such an important cause. Mission Hospice does incredible work, and it meant a lot to be part of something that gives back in such a real way.

Winter Wonderland Wedding November 22

Some weddings stay with you long after the day is over.

Jen and Greg’s Winter Wonderland wedding was one of those.

A few months before their wedding, we had our first consultation call. During that conversation, they shared their story, how they met, how they fell in love, and the vision they had for their wedding day. I listened carefully to every detail because that is always where the magic begins.

By the end of the call, they told me something I’ll never forget.

They had already spoken with 4 or so other wedding planners. One never showed up. Another argued with the bride about her flower choices. Others cancelled meetings or were simply far outside their budget.

During our call, Jen and Greg had me on speakerphone. They later told me they kept looking at each other and smiling, nodding the entire time, because every time they mentioned something important to them, I had a solution or an idea ready.

Before the call even ended, they said:

“Can you send us the contract? We know you’re the one we want to work with.”

I typically only take on one or two weddings per month because I want every couple I work with to have my full attention. My focus is always the same: understanding the couple’s vision and finding ways to bring it to life as beautifully as possible within their budget.

Jen and Greg’s theme was a delicate one, Winter Wonderland, not Christmas.

They wanted the magic of winter without it feeling overly holiday-themed.

Together we designed a room filled with glowing trees, candlelit pathways, soft greenery, and hundreds upon hundreds of warm fairy lights. In total we set up over a dozen illuminated trees to create the feeling of stepping into a glowing winter forest.

The details mattered everywhere.

We transformed their aisle into a candlelit pathway leading to a reflective dance floor engraved with their names. The dessert table was styled among twinkling trees. Even the tree bases were carefully wrapped with ivory satin runners so the entire room felt seamless and elegant.

But what couples often don’t see is everything happening behind the scenes.

When the photo booth arrived, the attendant suddenly realized she didn’t have enough space. Two full tables needed to be shifted nearly a metre, while guests were already in the room.

It was done quietly and smoothly without Jen or Greg ever knowing there had been a problem.

Their dessert table and late-night snack were brought out at just the right time. Drinks were refreshed. The timeline was managed. Every detail stayed on track.

Just minutes before the ceremony, the bride discovered her wedding dress was nearly six inches too long.

She looked at me and said, “Can you fix it?”

Five minutes before walking down the aisle, I carefully cut and adjusted her dress so she could walk comfortably and confidently into one of the most important moments of her life.

That trust she had in me was earned and I am so grateful.

On the wedding day, my role included a clipboard with the fully customized wedding master plan, scripps for the DJ and MC, coordinating the timeline, guiding the wedding party through the ceremony & processional, supporting vendors, queing the M/C & DJ, guiding guests, paying attention to details & finishing touches throughout the evening so everything stayed photogenic, ensuring every transition flowed smoothly on time.

When I arrived for setup day, my van was packed to the rafters with décor from my wedding showroom. Trees, lanterns, linens, and styling pieces that Jen and Greg were able to use as part of their package. I include access to my entire décor collection so couples can save hundreds on rentals while still creating something magical. It took a lot of planning, packing, setting up, and later taking everything down again but seeing their Winter Wonderland vision come to life….
Make moments like this all worth it,
during their speeches that evening, Jen and Greg paused and said something that caught me completely off guard.

They told their guests that their wedding would not have been the incredible day it was without someone very special.

Then they called out:

“Tanya… where are you?”

As I walked into the room, the entire room filled with applause.

Guests, cheering and clapping.

My eyes filled with tears because in that moment I realized how much love, joy, and meaning had filled that room and how grateful they were that I had helped bring it all together.

After the wedding, Jen left this review:

Over the past year, I’ve had the privilege of leading and supporting weddings that stretched me, strengthened me, and reminded me exactly why I do this work.

Each one looked different.
Different guest counts.
Different themes.
Different challenges.

But the goal is always the same:

To create an environment where the couple feels steady, supported, and fully present.

There is so much that happens behind the scenes of a wedding. Months of planning, mapping, sourcing, coordinating, adjusting, anticipating.

My role is not just to make a space beautiful.

My role is to carry the weight of the day so the couple doesn’t have to.

Today I want to share one of those weddings.

Michelle & Jason | November 8 | 140 Guests

Michelle first reached out months before her wedding. From our early showroom meetings to the final teardown the day after, this was a full-scale greenhouse celebration for 140 guests.

There were months of planning, venue walkthroughs, mockups, sourcing greenery, mapping layouts, coordinating vendors, building timelines, and anticipating every moving part.

The wedding weekend itself required full setup the day before, complete coordination from morning to late night, and teardown the following day.

On the wedding day, I cued the ceremony, coordinated vendors, managed timing, handled unexpected challenges, and supported the family when emotions and logistics overlapped.

There were last-minute fixes.
Vendor gaps that required stepping in.
Moments that needed calm instead of chaos.

And beyond logistics, there was a little four-year-old who wasn’t sure he wanted to walk down the aisle.

So I made a plan.
A quiet “spy mission” from the back of the greenhouse to the front just me and him.
A treasure hunt for a wish rock for his mom on the way.
A hand to hold.

AND He made it.

That’s what this work is.

It’s not just décor or timelines.

It’s presence.
It’s adaptability.
It’s protecting the couple’s peace while holding space for everything unfolding around them.

Marriage Still Matters

I know a lot of people these days are choosing not to get married and I get it.
Life is expensive.
There’s a house to save for, a business to build, student loans to pay off, kids to raise…

But I still believe in marriage.
I believe in gathering your people and marking that commitment with something meaningful, something that reminds you and everyone you love that this is sacred, and worth celebrating.

That’s part of why I do what I do.
I want couples to know that having a beautiful, intentional, organized wedding doesn’t have to mean overspending or over-stressing.

I keep my pricing well below BC’s average rates for both day-of coordination and wedding planning — not because my work has less value, but because I want more people to experience what it feels like to actually enjoy their wedding day.

I call myself a wedding helper because that’s what I love most about what I do — coming alongside you, helping bring your vision to life, and creating the calm that lets you just be present in it all.
