Getting your first skateboard is a big deal.

Skateboarding played a big part in my husband’s life (oddly enough, mine too), so it was particularly special to watch my son and him share this moment together.

In a world of blah transactional retail experiences, it’s refreshing to visit authentic shops with passionate owners - people and places that aren’t trying to be things they’re not, but staying true to the culture, community and core of what they’ve been selling from the start. That’s AntisocialSkateboardShop, and that’s its owner, Michelle, who continues to champion the sport after over 20 years in business.

Thanks, Michelle, for spending time with us and making this a memorable experience.

Two years come and gone since closing my little shop, Bureaux ✨

It’s much easier to look back on the experience now with gratitude - for what I had the opportunity to build and for all the amazing brands and people I had the pleasure to work with. I don’t miss everything about it, but I do miss filling shelves with beautiful products, tinkering with displays, and of course, that scene-stealing natural light that always stopped me in my tracks for photo ops 😗👌

Should I be so lucky to grow old and grey(er), this shop will surely exist in my memory as a very special time and place.

(These are just a few of my favourite shop shots from over the years ~ always lots of books, botanicals, bags and baby things! ~ thanks for indulging my walk down memory lane 😘).

I had to say goodbye to my best furry friend this week 🐾 ❤️‍🩹

He was a smaller dog, but he took up a lot of space in our home, and especially our hearts, over the last 13 years.

I’ve worked from home since closing my store (nearly two years ago!) - and while there are some benefits to this, the downside is that it can be quite lonely. He made it a little less so. He was my little lazy co-worker, there for belly rub breaks and quick snuggles, amidst a period of time when I was finding my way, grieving both a parent and a business. I’m pretty sure I needed him more than he needed me and if he knew how, like an annoyed co-worker, he might’ve asked for a desk change 😆

I felt a bit silly wanting to write about him, but I think most people who have lost a longtime pet can emote with how hard it is to say goodbye. Our pets are truly faithful, really there through it all - and while they don’t communicate in a language we speak, the love and comfort they bring us is universally understood. I’m thankful for experiencing it.

Finally gave in to the viral trend of dressing completely in Sherpa fleece and I gotta say, I’m into it 🐻

Kidding - just finally putting away my outdoor Christmas decorations (although it’s only 322 days away at this point…).

Committed to “no buy” January, but had to cheat a week in to sign up for ✉️✨ I couldn’t pass up Codie O’Connor’s pint-sized print, which just happens to be perfect for achieving my next goal - incorporating more colour into my living space (things are dark enough, am I right?).

Accessible art and a reason to look forward to checking the mail? I may have technically failed, but really, I think I won 👌

(Did ok for the rest of the month too!).

Honestly, I’ll tell anyone who will listen about my favourite lip balm and moisturizer. When you find products you love, it’s too hard not to spread the word ✨

The inaugural edition of 'Things I’m Loving Lately' highlights the most wonderful time of year; the Sephora Savings Event 😉

It only happens twice a year so you better believe I’m ready for it. Since Sephora rarely goes on sale, 15-20% off moves the dial enough for me. I’ll be restocking my favourite beauty products that are nearly done, I’ll nab gift sets and stocking stuffers for the holiday season ahead and - if I’m honest - I’ll treat myself to a product that’s been on my wish list. This year it’s the ‘Plume Lip Moisturizing Feather Matte Lip Whip’ from (I’m head over heels for their Bisou Balm already).
