April feels like a month of possibility

After the long stretch of winter, there's something hopeful about brighter mornings, longer evenings and the first signs that it might be time again, for slow strolls along Old Kingston Rd and peaceful walks along Duffin's Creek.

We're holding space for warmer weather, fresh starts and more opportunities to reconnect - with ourselves, with each other and with the simple rhythm of the village.

In between these moments the invitation is open:
To stop in, to bring a friend, to settle in with some work or simply enjoy the visiting atmosphere that continues to grow here day by day. Whether you have 5 minutes or an afternoon, there's a table for you.

The light lingers a little longer. The air feels full of possibility and quietly, something in us starts to wake up too.

This month at Bean & Basket, we're inviting you to take a small chance on something new.

Come to the workshop even if you don't know anyone.
Show up even if it's been a long time since you've stayed out on a weeknight.
Try the themed evening, the sharing circle, the March break pop-up, the class.

You never know who you'll meet.
You never know what spark might catch.
You never know what part of you might come alive again.

We've filled March with offerings created by brave makers and dreamers who decided to say, "Why not?"

Step into an evening of poetry, story, and connection.

On January 31, we’re honoured to welcome local poet Vilma Blenman as she shares from her book Brown Eyes Watching—a moving collection of story-poems exploring belonging, history, current events, and the places our hearts call “home.”

In her pages, Jamaica meets Canada. Maple leaves and mango trees move in the same breeze. White-sand beaches and silver lakes are warmed by the same sun. Lyrical and spoken-word pieces rest side by side, inviting readers and listeners of all ages to lean in and be moved.

Come listen, exhale, and spend an evening with words that notice, remember, and watch the world with compassion.
