Handled a few special pieces today—courtesy of the Vesz family.

There’s something different about seeing these in person. The shaping is deliberate, almost architectural, but still carries that warmth Vesz was known for. Nothing overworked. Just clean cuts, balanced proportions, and an aged root briar that speaks on its own.

The brasswork and amber stems stand out immediately. These weren’t made to follow trends.

Grateful for the time and the stories behind them.

Great night of learning about Eric Stokkebye’s 4th Generation line from the man himself. Julius Vesz’s son then showed us a beautiful collection of his dad’s private stock. Some absolutely stunning pieces.

A true post-war time capsule: this 1948 Dunhill Shell (Patent 417574/34) captures the brand in the austerity years, when Britain was still rebuilding and everyday rationing was only just beginning to ease—bread rationing, for example, wasn’t lifted until July 1948.

Stamped with Dunhill’s 417574/34 patent—used as the primary (and, post-1944, standard) patent marking across Dunhill production—this pipe represents the era of Dunhill’s refined inner tube/spring-flange engineering and the classic Shell sandblast that made the finish legendary.

This one feels like more than a pipe. It’s a story, born out a friendship that joins two masters or their craft— it reads the way a good piece of art does: intentional, expressive, and tells a story.

I’ve always collected art, and it’s a special thing when a functional object crosses that line and earns a place in that world. This collaboration does exactly that — something to smoke, something to study, something to display.
