Hey Gang!
With the long weekend behind us, and the days growing cooler, we had a cold go through the house already! 🤷🏼‍♀️🫤🤧
Since I was home on Mom duty, I've been working my way through the end of season harvest 🪏, and prepping some yarn art to maybe enter in the fair this year! 😬🎡🎠🎪🧶🥇🤞🏼Wish me luck? 🤷🏼‍♀️😂
It's also that time of year when Eira is asked to start thinking about what she would like for her annual winter hat. We hit the farmers market a few weeks ago, and she spotted a booth for heritage domestic arts!
"Oh Dad! Better get comfortable. Mom's going to want to look at this one!" 😂
She wasn't wrong! The Trapper's Wife (although not on any social media), was a super kind woman, and hand painted this gorgeous Merino/Nylon blend. It is more than I usually spend on yarn, but my wee lady was so excited for the colours, I couldn't say no.💙💜🩶🩷🤍
It was a fine yarn, but I managed to work up a new warm freestyle winter hat, that looks cute, and at Eira's special request, has extra length in the back, to cover her neck, in the cold coming wind. 🌬️ I wish the camera did the yarn justice, and you could see the fine strands of silver sparkle running throughout. Devine! 💎 The vendor's name is Jenny Croft, and her info is below. There are 2 more markets before the end of the season in town. If you are a yarn artist, maybe go check her out? 🤩
Don't get me wrong, I'm not rushing into winter ❄️, I'm just happy to be prepared! 👍🏼

🍎Hooray SLS fam! It's the First Day of School! ✏️

How many of you have littles heading back today? How many are back already? Our little Miss was very excited for grade 2! 🎒

But you know, starting school means, ending summer... 🙁👎🏼🌞

Luckily, her and I are fall girlies! 🍂🍁 Bring it on! 🙌🏼

In the meantime, we had some fabulous people to thank profusely for all the energetic, patient, and devoted care our girlie received at her daycare all season, before heading off to her newest scholastic adventures.

I also got to try something new! Crochet thread! 🧶 This super fine weighted yarn, or thread, makes really pretty lace-like crochet. I crafted it into hand made bath poofs of soft taupe cotton. I paired it with some hand crafted soap, fuzzy socks, summer berry jam, and a soft smelling candle, in the hopes that a little self care was welcome after such a busy summer.

They were fun to work up, and are a project I would try again. They're super soft! I just may have to make one to try out myself! 😉

🎶 Well hello there gang! 👗
Hubby and I recently spent a few nights on the town for a couple of special occasions. 🗓️🎉 I found this soft light little dress on clearance, but in my size, it fit like a sack of potatoes... 🥔 👎🏼
A few darts at the bust, an empire waist gather with some thin elastic, and shorter straps... Voila! I felt so cute and comfy! Not bad for $20 bucks and some thread. 🙌🏼💪🏼
I paired it with some converse, 👟 and a jean jacket 🧥 for a swanky blues concert look, and it was a night to remember!

🌦️🤷🏼‍♀️ Hi Guys! Everyone staying dry?! ☔⛈️

🤣🎄🎅🏼🤶🏼It's Christmas in July! 🤶🏼🎅🏼🎄🤣

We are travelling a little here and there on the weekends now that summer is half over 🤫, and with all this rain, I have not exactly been rolling in the yard work mid-week. So, keeping caught up is a total wash. 🥴 The weeds are taking over, but the memories are being made. A fair trade? Maybe not if you ask my husband when he finally gets a chance to cut the grass. 🌱✂️🤣
All projects that travel well have been the name of the game. So, these small Christmas dish cloths, and towel hangers have worked great for long car rides, and early morning coffees by a lake. And the best part? They sparkle. ✨ It will be fun to see where they end up! 🤔
I have a bunch of cool gifts I've made that haven't been gifted yet too. Once they have, I'll post those for you to check out.
For now....😂Merry Christmas(in July)! 😂 And enjoy the warm weather while it's here! 😘 Shout out to my aunt Cheron (And maybe my Granny R**t?) for the pretty Christmas yarn they passed on. 🥹

💖🎣🐟 Hope you are having a fabulous July! 🌊☀️🚙

Summer, for us, is often about socializing. You know, our fam is very lucky to have some really wonderful, and long lasting friendships.💖 We've been reflecting on it recently, and feeling pretty blessed! 🍀 We just spent four days with our daughter's godmother, and a few of our besties. So many great memories were made, and we finally had our first visit to the Fish Camp 🎣 🐟 after all these years! We made a few mementos for them to take with them when they go back and forth in the years to come, to say thank you. 🤎💙🤍🙏🏼 As we have mentioned before, cotton is anti-microbial, and is great for cottages, when running water may be a tricky situation. 💦 This was my first attempt at a personalized surface crochet. It was a fun yarn buster. We hope to be invited to make memories for years to come! What do you think of the technique?

Here's another project I cranked out pretty quickly a while back, when I had a bunch of time on my hands. ⏰ 🏥 This yarn is discontinued, and I can't buy it anymore. 🥺 So, I was saving it for something special.🤔 Heading into the hospital without knowing I wasn't leaving for a bit, I'm glad I thought to choose something like this to cheer me up. This pretty baby blanket is getting tucked away for future gifting. Maybe I'll be a grandmother some day! 🤣🤍🩶🤍🩶🤷🏼‍♀️

I don't know about you guys, but June 📆 was a doozie over here! 😰😳 ⛑️🏥
On this last day of school ✏️ we were reflecting back, and considering ourselves so grateful to be healthy, and well.🍎🙌🏼
Yet another kind of stitches entered the SLS arena in the meantime, and honestly surgery was not on my bingo card for this summer. 🤷🏼‍♀️😎🫣
Despite a recent little situation with my gallbladder; luckily, everything seems to have gone well, and I'm healing fantastically. 🤞🏼😊
On the upside of it, I've had a ton of time for the stitching I really like best. The kind that won't dissolve over time! 🤣🧶
Here's a yarn buster that Eira immediately decided she loved early on, and insisted on choosing the order of colours for, as it went. It sparkles a little here and there, feels very 'granny core', and has been a regular part of her sleep, and playtime, since. What do you think: tacky, or trendy?! 💙🧡💚❤️🩷🖤💙🤎💜❤️💛🤍

🫶🏼🤍Hi SLS Gang! Me again! 🤍 🫶🏼
What a month June has been so far!
More on that later....🤪
I can say despite some unexpected...let's call them adventures, there's been lots of yarn on the hook lately too! 👍🏼
But a lot of it has been gifts I can't yet reveal to those of you who follow the goings on over here. 🎁 🧶
I did have the sewing machine out in the last few weeks to do some alterations for a friend, and while it was out, I fixed up some curtains that have been dragging on the floor. 🪟
We recently removed some bifold doors on our master bedroom closet, to get more clearance, and it was high time the curtains we replaced them with were fitted properly. 🪡 🧵
It's not all artistic I suppose. Sometimes it's practical too! 😊 A quick steam and they'll be perfect!

🌿 Hi all! 🌞
It's going to be another warm one! 🥵 So, talking about blankets probably seems a bit silly. 🤣
But if you are fortunate to still have elders in your family, you know air conditioning can be a tricky thing to maneuver as we head into that season. 🥶
🥰 My grandmother just turned 93 on Sunday! 😲
And so, a lap blanket to ward off the cold on her legs, or shoulders, once the A/C hits full blast, was the plan.
I chose a bunch of warm browns, and a lot of pretty little ends of skeins I had collected. 🧶
The border was then composed of all of the really small remaining lengths, in a single strand, to bring all the colours together. 🫶🏼 It's about 4'x4', and should just be long enough to lay comfortably in her lap, without being too heavy to move about. 💪🏼
For a yarn buster, I think it turned out beautifully. And her generation will appreciate the 'waste not, want not' quality behind the love in each stitch.

🪴🌞And just like that it's June! 🤪🪴

The garden is planted, the grass is growing faster than we want to be cutting it, the lilacs are in full bloom, and it won't be long before the kids are off for the summer! 🏫 🎒 🍎 🏖️
In honour of the last month of school, I'm sharing this year's teacher appreciation gifts! 🥰🤫🎁

Eira is loving our little spider plant tradition. 😍 We've repotted a bunch of new babies for the summer. It gave me a great idea for this gift. 💚 🤎

Teachers are instrumental in helping our children learn and grow! 👩🏼‍🏫 We hope they find a nice spot in the class room, or at home for these boho inspired little plant hangers, and there new baby spider plants 🕷️🪴

It was my first time incorporating beads into my crochet work, and these custom designed plant hangers are in no shortage of the newly added accessories. 📿 I may even have gone a little overboard! 🫣😬 I hope all of your littles have some inspiring educators to be thankful for this month too!
