Here is the cut of test soap, and the colour after a few days. The soap turned brown because the fragrance I used contains vanilla! This colour change is why you don’t see a lot of vanilla soaps out there.

I love soap making because it’s a journey into stillness for me. It’s great for my mental health and I enter a “flow state” when I make soap-I’m in the zone. It’s peaceful and I get to create something from scratch that I get to share with you!

I’m a girl mom and a boy mom. I have a tripod dog that my family and I adopted from Riverview Rescues. I foster with RR as well. And I make cute paw print soaps as a small fundraiser for them.

As an entrepreneur I feel like I’m on a roller coaster ride of sales and no sales and the crazy emotional extremes that come with that. But I focus on my craft to stay sane!

I’m attending my second market in Renfrew Saturday September 12th. I’m actually a shy person and in person selling is intimidating to me. I wish I could make the soap and someone else could sell it lol. But I love this little brand I’ve created.

Oh, why the name Hen Valley? Well I’m a crazy chicken lady!! 🐓 unfortunately I had to give up my flock when I moved. And valley because I live in the Ottawa Valley.

This beautiful orange is an Annatto seed infusion. This is a test soap to see how the fragrance is going to discolour it. Cut coming tomorrow!

This has been a very popular soap the last few weeks. I’m currently sold out and this batch will be ready September 30th.

This bar is fully loaded with skin loving ingredients! Cocoa butter, Shea butter, coconut oil, olive oil and castor oil.

This is how I achieved the beautiful orange colour I showed you on Wednesday!

I used Annatto seeds, olive oil and a little bit of heat to draw out the colour.

Once the soaps have set up I can take them out of the mold and paint the details with fresh soap!

My fundraiser soaps sold out! Thank you so much! I’ve got more made, they just need to cure and they’ll be ready on September 28th!
