🍁 On this day in 1944, D-Day roughly 14,000 Canadian soldiers stormed a heavily fortified 8-kilometer stretch of the Normandy coast in France, codenamed "Juno Beach". Supported by 110 navy ships and 15 RCAF squadrons, the Canadians successfully pushed inland but suffered 1,074 casualties, including 359 killed.Over 90,000 Canadians and Newfoundlanders participated in Operation Overlord and the subsequent Battle of Normandy.

🍁 This was predicated by an airborne assault throughout the night of June 5th. 543 of those paratroopers were Canadian. Canadas primary airborne contribution on D-Day was the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion. Dropping into France hours before the seaborne landings, their critical mission was to secure the eastern flank of the invasion area, destroy key bridges, and prevent German reinforcements from reaching the coast. The Airborne phase of "Operation Overlord" commenced with the drop of 18,000 Allied paratroopers...at least 2500 would never see the light of morning.

It's a cultural lie that silence equals strength.
In trauma‑exposed professions people don’t break because they’re weak. They break because they’ve been carrying too much, for too long, with too little support.

"It makes you next" isn't a punchline. It's the warning. A warning that heralds: the next person to burn out, the next person to hit a wall, the next person to spiral, the next person to break in private, the next person the community loses. And not because we're weak, but because we're silent.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Do yourself a service and talk it out.
