Random questions I have received over the past few months:

1. Are you still open? Website too?

Yup. Website is in constant motion. Dipper stocked. Inverness too. Summer retailers are also getting stock.
I’m in the kitchen each week. Try for 5 days but life gets in the way sometimes. If I take too many days off a pressure builds in my chest - I have to stay on top of it.

2. Anything new coming?

Nope. I’m all set. It is a lot. I can only do so much. One person. I love my job - I’m a crafter at heart. Hire staff? Expensive. And changes my job. I become a manager not a chocolate maker. Less efficient. Office work is a pain in the ass. Gives me zero joy. Takes away from chocolate making.

3. Do you make cherry chocolates?

No. And I never will. When I started, I decided to make MY box of chocolates. Hence Jill’s Chocolates. Cherry would be the one I would bite into and then spit out. I have a big sweet tooth. It is a real occupational hazard for me. I try not to eat them. But I have to test what I’m making. Then, it tastes good I want another. I better have a piece of dark cuz that’s healthy. And well maybe a ginger cuz now my stomach hurts. I LOVE my chocolates. Very addictive for me.

But hey, there is a market for cherry chocolates. Any budding chocolatiers out there that want to make cash at Christmas?? Focus on Cherry chocolates only, and let the province know - online would be best. People are obsessed!! Price them properly or you will be working for nothing.

These three products above in the pic I basically make on repeat all year long. Then fill in the gaps and stock up on shelf stable products. Fold boxes. Cut ribbon. Prep prep prep.

If you are still on the hunt for bunnies, Iona has milk, dark, crispie and some dark seasalt .. even some minis!

What is left will remain until Monday morning.

A reminder that online will remain closed until April 22nd.

However, the Little Dipper in Iona will continue to sell during that time frame.

Easter is 2 weeks from today 🐣

As of this morning the Little Dipper in Iona was restocked with all 8 flavours & minis. I will restock each day until next Sunday ….then I go to Halifax for the week.

Online shoppers, I will be shipping out orders tomorrow & then not again until Friday March 27th at noon. That will be the last day and then online will be ‘closed’ until April 19th.

Hoppy Easter shopping everyone. Support local …. Buy real chocolate instead of the other stuff. It’s soooo worth it.

Have you ever watched this movie (or read the book)?
It’s a gem.

This mysterious lady moves into town and opens a chocolate shop at the beginning of lent. Tempting the faith and abstinence of the folks who have given up sweets for the 40 days before Easter.

Lent starts today. I personally haven’t given anything up since probably 1997 (roast chicken chips….and I didn’t break my fast….which was an accomplishment for me).
As a kid I remember choosing to give up raisins and nuts one year. I was told that didn’t count.

Good luck to anyone that is going to hold out on their own vice for the next 40 days. If it is chocolate I will meet you at the other end.

As for my Izaak bunnies… almost ready to roll out. Been quietly working away on them for weeks 💕

I do love chocolate - all sweets really.

I’ve been doing Valentines Chocolates for many years now. It’s not your average chocolate holiday. Many many factors affect sales.

In general Valentines Day itself can be my largest sale day of the year … if the stars are aligned.

This year I calculated would not be one of those years.

Normally I’d be at Scotia Square. But men Valentine’s shoppers do not start buying generally until Feb 13 and most are scrambling on the 14th. Sorry. It’s a trend I have watched for 20 some years.

So I have learned.

It’s on a Saturday this year (no one works at Scotia Square on weekends )
Fridays the 13th …. Well very few workers go to the office on Fridays since Covid.

And well the 11th and 12th …. Usually a snow storm blows through the province and everyone is home shovelling.

Case in point. Snow day today & tomorrow in NS.

But if you are a regular at Scotia Square you know all this because I told you at Xmas I would not be there.

in Inverness does have some Valentine’s Chocolates from us.

When I get to this stage of starting to catch up … the beginning of this song by the Rankins always goes through my head. Wooo!

Website starting to be opened up all. Took a bit…. Appointments, shop maintenace, power outages and sh*tty weather.

But it’s starting to come together here 🎶

Bob Weir. Definitely one of my most unexpected meets at the 2014 American Music Awards. I’m not sure what brought him there exactly that year. He had taken his family through the gifting suite though, and was happy to let me grab this pic. 💕 The conversation was short and all about chocolate and where I was from.
Rest in peace and thank you for the music.
