Fresh leeches are now officially in stock!!👏🏻

Leeches are one of the most productive freshwater live baits; their wiggling, continuous wavy motion and natural scent trigger aggressive feeding strikes from fish. This makes them especially effective during cold fronts or when fish are sluggish, especially for species like walleye, bass, trout, and panfish. 🎣

Did you know, how you hook a leech directly affects its action and how long it will hold on your hook! 😮

🎣 Best Hook and Rigging Methods:

🐟 For jigging, hook the leech just once through the larger, muscular sucker (the tail). This allows the rest of the body to swim freely and curl in the water as needed.
🐟 For slow drifting or rigging, hook the leech directly through the small suction cup near the head of the leech.

⭐️Small hooks keep the weight low so the leech’s swimming motion isn’t restricted.⭐️

This weekend is a big weekend coming up! It is officially the weekend that kicks off the start of summer! 🎉☀️
Canadian residents can fish throughout Ontario for free this weekend as well!! 🎣 This means you do not need to buy a fishing licence if you want to take your dad out on the water for Father’s Day weekend! 🥰

“Free fishing periods remind us of the value of Ontario’s recreational fishery, and the importance of keeping it healthy for future generations. While fishing for free during a free fishing period you must:
* follow conservation licence catch limits
* obey size limits and sanctuaries
* follow the fishing regulations
* carry a permit or identification card issued by the provincial or federal government, showing your name and date of birth”

The Fire Danger Rating in Muskoka Lakes has been lowered to MODERATE.

What you need to know:
• Daytime burning (8 a.m. until 6 p.m.) is permitted with a valid open-air fire permit
• Small, confined fires are permitted in the evening (6 p.m. until 8 a.m. the following morning) without a permit, use caution with fires
• Stay fire smart: keep outdoor fires controlled and attended

Local conditions are being actively monitored by the Muskoka Association of Fire Chiefs and MNR. Further updates will be shared as appropriate.

🔔 MNR Water Safety Bulletin in effect until June 19.

Elevated water levels and flows are expected to remain over the next week on Lake Muskoka, Lake Rosseau and the Moon River including the Bala Reach.

Summary:

• Residents, visitors, and boaters are advised to use extreme caution near dams, as recent high-water levels may have affected safety booms, signage, barriers, and other safety features. Please continue to be mindful of your wake.

• Use caution around lower-lying portions of known flood-prone areas and forest access roads as they may be impacted to varying degrees.

• Significant rainfall across the watershed between June 5–10 brought approximately 85–117 mm of precipitation, exceeding the typical monthly average of 86 mm. With already saturated soils, rainfall quickly became runoff, causing rapid increases in river flows and lake levels.

Here are a few helpful steps to consider through recovery and additional impacts:

📷 Document & Check First: Take photos of any damage and contact your insurance provider. Before starting repairs, connect with our Building team to confirm if permits are required.

💧 Water & Septic Safety: Floodwater may be contaminated. Test well water before use and have septic systems inspected to ensure they’re working safely.

⚙️ Home Systems & Utilities: Check that sump pumps are clear and operating properly. Electrical and gas systems should be inspected by qualified professionals before being turned back on if impacted by flooding.

🗑️ Clean-Up & Disposal: Managed by the District of Muskoka, temporary fee relief programs for eligible flood-damaged residential waste is available

The fire rating is currently “low”, which means fire burning and fireworks are allowed this Victoria long-weekend!!🙌🏼🎉

We have you covered if you need wood, sparklers, and/or fireworks! We also have all you need to cook a tasty treat over the fire!!🔥😋

Fireworks are permitted during the Victoria Day long weekend (Saturday, Sunday, and holiday Monday) specifically between dusk and 11:00 p.m., provided no fire ban continues to be in effect.

Fireworks are not allowed:
🚫Set off in clear areas away from buildings, trees, and dry vegetation. (Within 8 metres of a building, structure, vehicle, tent, trailer, etc.)
🚫During a Fire Ban or HIGH/EXTREME fire rating.
🚫When winds exceed 40 km/h.
🚫Within 300 m of fuel or explosives
🚫Flying lanterns are not permitted
🚫 Fireworks are not permitted on Township property

⭐️Must be 18+ to discharge⭐️

Always ensure to have a bucket of water or hose nearby!! 💦
