It’s lights out and all candles in Harmons tonight. We are switching our power distribution over to a whole new system this evening. Once the power is turned back on, it will symbolize the dawning of a whole new age. It shall be electrifying! ⚡️✨

"The train call through the valley; solitude that is ever present but just out of reach; stillness juxtaposed with chaos; a place so grounded it can drink all the sorrows; beauty that breaks your heart."

Sebastian Hutchings was born into one of Banff’s earliest families, the great grandson of photographer Byron Harmon, and grew up amongst a community of artists, entrepreneurs, and naturalists. These early influences fostered his commitment to culture and the environment, and reinforced a spirit of individualism. In his twenties, Hutchings achieved a degree in music composition from Concordia University in Montreal, and spent his time between the big city, the wilds of the Rockies, and biking his way down the west coast of the continent. Hutchings has composed and produced a number of chamber operas, including Did I escape, I wonder..., which was performed at the 2012 Ottawa International Chamber Music Festival, and The Agony of Mrs Stone, an opera based on the true events surrounding the death of Dr. Winthrop Stone and the survival of his wife Margaret on the side of Mt. Eon in 1921.
In recent years, Hutchings’ has settled back in Banff with his wife B Watson to help oversee his family’s heritage building. His commitment to community and desire to promote cultural activities in his home town has crystallized into the creation of The Radiant, a project he now lovingly shares with his partners and family. Hutchings continues to compose music, write stories, and build furniture and narrative installation pieces.

Amelie, Kate, and Beth are mere moments from opening , a soon-to-be feature on Banff's main street!

Bow District is a retail space that presents a curated collection of handmade, local, one-of-a-kind gifts that are a reflection of our mountain home. This retail endeavour evolved from three Banff artists wanting to create a supportive environment. A place for Canadian artists to sell their wares to the local community and an international audience.

Amelie Petch was born in Banff and is passionate about her Rocky Mountain home. She takes her inspiration from nature to create simple, elegant earrings using sterling silver and semiprecious stones.

Kate Plant’s textile work, ‘Plant Fibre’ expresses her love of nature. She explores colours and textures in her printed, felted and embroidered pieces.

Beth Woolley Monod works in hot glass, both blown and sculptural. There is an ineffable, profound bond between the pieces and the artist.

“Wellness is our focus. To aid healing is our passion. The Practice instantly makes you feel at home as our classes, workshops and trainings are led with open hearts, support, and encouragement. This beautiful space has been created for everyone to feel a sense of community, belonging and pure, honest, connection"

Meet Harmons’ New Women Entrepreneurs

As a part the Harmons building revamp, the owners of this historic building have the honour of welcoming a group of women entrepreneurs to the roster of tenants.

In a tourist market dominated by souvenir shops and chains, these women are changing the face of Banff avenue through their creation of unique businesses that will serve a tourist audience while providing spaces for Bow Valley locals.
This group portrait is a small way to celebrate the hard work and determination of this group.
