This book is written in a bit of an older English style, so it takes some work to read it.
I have found it to be more than worth it. This book has been a blessing to me every time I have read it.
While a work of fiction this book gives a picture of what it meant to be a Reformed believer, a Huguenot in France.
The hardships they faced, the cruelty they endured, the grief they bore, and the constancy of their faith amidst terrible suffering and persecutions.

We have read Ecclesiastes before, but this year it has taken on a whole new meaning.
We have listened to several sermons and read several books this year that have impacted or thoughts on it.
This is one of them. Simona is a great writer and is unafraid to give a glimpse at difficult times in her own life.
This book magnifies Christ above all in the good and the bad times. Christ gives meaning to our whole life even to the mundane.

A book publishing journey nearing completion!

There are many stages in a publishing journey.
These are a small portion of them.
It is always fun to see the project coming together.
It’s kind of like building a house from design concept, to framing, to roof on, to finishing touches.
We are very excited for Biblical Cardiology to come out sometime this fall.

Thoughts for the Week

We are reading the final book of the Laura Ingall’s book series the “These Happy Golden Years” as a family. It’s a fun family read. Reading it has made me contemplate how quick life goes, how quick life changes. The book has a real touch of nostalgia to it, even the title speaks to it. Life doesn’t remain the same for long. First Mary leaves for college, then Almanzo begins to come around, and finally Laura marries him.

The Ingall’s family had their share of hardships as a family, but they also had a lot of joy. At one point in “These Happy Golden Years” Laura becomes a school teacher, and has to live in another families home during the school week. It was a miserable time. Returning home for the weekends magnified for Laura the blessing of her own home, and family. All those small insignificant moments and memories that we so often miss, are those that make up the home.

I pray that I too would begin to see, to enjoy those moments more clearly. Life is short. Children grow up fast. Change will come also to our family. Change is often not bad, it is I am sure also a great blessing to see children grow up and become adults themselves. The point is these moments we have now are short. I want to enjoy these God given blessings of the small moments to their fullest.

The moment when you nearly trip (again) on their favourite blanket and teddy bear left in the hallway (again). The moment that you hear your little daughter trying to play the piano, with fingers almost to small for the keys. The moment you hear your son belting out a Christian hymn at the top of his lungs, unaware that anyone is listening. These moments are here today, and gone tomorrow. I pray that I would thank God for these precious moments while they are here.

That’s why we love books. Good Books. That promote Christian values for Christian homes.
They have the ability to shift wrong perspectives, or renew and refresh old truths.
To the glory of God the creator, author of it all.
