Hello, October.
This month we celebrate opal, October's birthstone. It's beauty and warmth has long been associated with transformation and change and that feels particularly fitting for our little company right now.
Next year marks 20 years since CITRUS was founded in Toronto. As we approach that anniversary, we've been thinking a lot about how to honour our history as we continue to evolve.
You may already notice a few changes to our website. But the things that matter most haven't changed. We still make our jewelry by hand, right here in Canada. We believe in buying less and choosing things that are made to last and worth holding onto.
That's what Wear Your Story has always meant to us.

Do you find dimes too?

Once you start noticing them, they seem to turn up everywhere.

Some people keep every one they find. Others have one particular dime they would never spend. And over the years, we’ve met so many people who have their own stories about where their dimes appear and what they mean to them.

At CITRUS, we’ve been turning Canadian dimes into jewelry for years. We can find a meaningful year from our collection, or you can send us the actual dime you found and we’ll frame it by hand in Canadian sterling silver.

Because sometimes it isn’t the year that matters. It’s the dime.

I put this necklace on today because I needed a little extra courage for what felt like a pretty big day.

It was my mom’s. I gave it to her years ago, and now I wear it. The penny is from 1949, her birth year.

It’s a tiny piece of Canadian history, but for me, it’s also a little piece of her.

Canada stopped making pennies in 2012. But we never really stopped collecting them.

In our CITRUS studio, we have literally thousands of Canadian pennies dating from 1923 to 2012.

We keep them for a reason.

When we make a Lucky Penny Necklace, the year can be chosen to mark something personal like a birth year, an anniversary, a new beginning, or simply a year that means something to you.

There’s something I love about taking a familiar piece of Canadian history and giving it a shiny new life. What was once pocket change becomes something pretty and worth holding onto.

Taking a moment this Labour Day to appreciate the work that came before us.

This old stool came from the British American Bank Note in Ottawa, where my dad spent his career. It was once used by a master engraver, eventually came home with my dad, and today it sits in my studio while I make jewelry by hand.

One simple stool, three generations of makers. Somehow, it found its way from their workbench to mine.

Grateful for the work I get to do, and for all the hands that came before mine.

It's officially back-to-school season which is where the CITRUS story began.

Nearly twenty years ago, one mom wanted a way to feel close to her daughters when they weren't together. She hand-stamped their names onto a silver pendant she could wear every day.

It didn't make saying goodbye any easier, it just made them feel a little closer.
