YES! The amazing Route 19A Arts Festival is back for its 4th year ... and we couldn't be more excited! It just keeps getting better and better!

The line up of Visual and Performing Arts is stunning, and truly offers something for everyone.

It starts with the Fine Art Exhibition at the Lighthouse Community Centre in Qualicum Beach on Sept 12th-13th. There are 22 Fine Artists who have been selected by a jury members Brent Lynch and David Goatley. The artists will be there ... and live music by Brad Prevedoros and Fred Saliani throughout the day.

September 14th marks the beginning of the LIVE PERFORMANCES in multiple venues ... check out the schedule and get your tickets!

And on the final weekend, the Artists Studio Tour - 24 Artists in their natural habitat.

It's going to be fabulous, and you can pick up a catalogue of events at the market, or visit route19A.com for all the details.

MURAT SENEMOGLU :: One-of-a-kind Jewelry

"There is a wonderful, universal language in jewelry art."

Murat, now based in Vancouver, originates from Ankara, Turkey. As well as being a silversmith, he has a BA in both Archaeology and Art History. Before emigrating to Canada in 2005, he was making and selling his jewelry in his studio-shop in Ankara, Turkey, as well as lecturing in jewelry making techniques and Art History at Baskent University. He has been creating his own, unique designs for more than thirty years.

"I am drawn to the organic and irregular patterns of nature and I am inspired by all the details that I see in my daily life: the shapes, textures and patterns in nature, such as branches on a tree, different details in a leaf and especially reflections and movements I observe on the ocean. I am dedicated to design and create particularly unique contemporary jewelry, inspired by my surroundings."

Each piece is a statement, both beautiful and bold, individual and universal.

What a nice way to stay in touch with friends and family ... a nice note on a beautiful card that comes from a peaceful place. Janine and Brett Sibley retired from a busy Vancouver life, to settle in the quiet of Bowser. With them they brought their skills and talents as designer and printer. So, now they get to design and letterpress print anything they choose!

These beautiful cards, available individually or in sets, are the perfect way to share the calm of the island in a most beautiful way ... why not surprise someone you adore with some great mail!

Janet McDonald with her beautiful paintings reproduced on fabric and made into pillow covers ... Andrew Kent who bends willow and alder into fanciful and practical chairs, tables, and so much more ... and Kent and Ashley Leontowich from Westcoastkitch who continue to create new and wonderful west coast inspired art using a whole bunch of recycled woodland a vision of joy!

Marianne Enhörning ::
"Painting is my voice, the place where I can express passions that words can’t reach.'

Originally from Sweden, Marianne now lives and paints in the Comox Valley. I find great joy in community, children and natural beauty. I am passionate, positive and compassionate, especially when it comes to caring for our environment.

Marianne creates evocative, dreamlike works in oil that are figurative, nature-influenced and abstractly architectural. Her art explores the division between modern society and nature, longing for a more harmonious world.

"Women, community and nature continually inspire me, and I want to celebrate all three through my painting by expressing my deep gratitude to this beauty that surrounds me."

Marianne is deeply influenced by her family heritage. She credits her grandmother as a big influence in her life, as well as the natural environment and dance.

She has spent many years alternating her time between natural and urban environments: on the West Coast as a kayak guide and in cities, working in architecture.

"Sometimes the end product just happens. It is an unknown process that I couldn't repeat. I begin with a palette of paint, a new canvas and no preconceived ideas. When I raise my head I see an image true to my being that still evades words."

We just love the way you capture the essence of the island life in these small pieces. Just perfect Marianne!

Graham Herbert :: Master of the Colourful Boat

"I grew up in Calgary surrounded by drawing, painting and boat building."

He moved to Vancouver in his early twenties to work around boats and do more sailing, but became more interested in painting the West Coast seascape. He studied art at the Emily Carr College of Art and later at the Victoria College of Art. Most of Graham’s techniques however have resulted from years of experimentation and innovation.

"I became fascinated with the bold compositional possibilities of nature and beach rocks which gave him endless material for powerful yet tranquil paintings. Recently his love of boats and painting have come together. These colourful, happy images represent a return to the simplicity of childhood and the joy children take in representing the things they love. Graham infuses his paintings with peace and tranquility, imaginary worlds full of exciting colours, funky buildings and classic boats floating on reflecting waters. "

Graham works in a skylit studio nestled in the trees on Hornby Island. Here he distills the images and impressions he gathers on his travels to the many wonderful waterfront communities around the world.

"The West Coast of Canada is both home and inspiration for me. I am fascinated by the transition from land to sea and sky and my work investigates the resulting interplay of lines and colours."

We love the feeling of Graham's work! In the dead of winter, we look up and see one his bright and cheerful boats, and we smile. His work just makes us happy.

Ellen Statz :: Raku Pottery

"My greatest pleasures come from allowing the clay to take me places I would not venture into on my own."

Ellen was born and raised in the small coastal community of Campbell River BC, on Vancouver Island. She is the daughter of a commercial fisherman and has a long and direct connection with the sea and with nature which inspires her whimsical forms and designs.

Ellen discovered clay in 1984 while enrolled in the Fine Arts Diploma Program at Malaspina College (now VIU) in Nanaimo BC. She continued her art education and work in Raku at North Island College.

Ellen’s work has moved through a number of themes ranging from a fixation with alligators to her current interest in botanical textures and impressions.

She currently lives and works in Campbell River where she makes Raku pottery and teaches classes in her home studio. Ellen’s work is held in collections throughout the world and she enjoys an enthusiastic local following.

"The unpredictable and spontaneous nature of Raku produces positive feedback which shows no sign of abating."
