🦊 Learn to Draw & paint Animals with Mary McEwan 🐮

Students learn to observe, construct and paint an animal. They move from quick gesture sketches to a finished acrylic painting that shows form, texture and character. The unit also links to the tradition of animals in art, including Indigenous art and Canadian landscape and wildlife painting.

Learning Goals

By the end of the class, students will be able to:
• Capture an animal’s posture and movement with gesture drawing.
• Build an animal’s body from basic shapes, with accurate proportions.
• Use value (light and shadow) to create three-dimensional form.
• Show different textures (fur, feathers, scales) with a range of brushstrokes.
• Communicate an animal’s personality or mood in a finished painting.
• Reflect on their own creative process and give feedback to others.
