🌀🧵 Let’s Give Blenders a Whirl! 🌈

I was recently packing an order for a customer featuring four Ruby Star Society Speckled blenders, and it got me thinking… blender fabrics really can be the star of the show! ✨

We all love a spectacular hero print, but sometimes the secret to making it shine is finding the perfect supporting cast. A contrasting or complementary blender can add texture, colour and depth without competing for attention, letting that hero print take centre stage.

And we have some gorgeous blenders at Modern Stitch Co.! From Riley Blake’s 'Texture' and Ruby Star Society’s 'Starry' or 'Speckled' (with and without metallic sparkle ✨), to the beautiful textures of 'Warp & Weft' there are so many options to play with.

I had a little fun thinking outside the (fabric) box when putting these photos together… because why should blenders only be found in the kitchen? 😂

Happy Tuesday, makers! 💛

For those of you who enjoyed the long weekend, I hope it was a good one! 🍂🍗 For my part, I spent some of it embracing a winter tradition: turning my collection of beautiful fabric scraps, pre-loved blankets and woolly jumpers that I just can't bear to throw away into handmade winter mitts. 🧵✂️

Happy weekend, makers! 💛
Someone recently asked me whether I find packing customer orders stressful, and honestly? I find it quite relaxing! 🧘‍♂️

There’s something about tuning out the world and getting lost in the rhythm of measuring, cutting, folding and packing fabric that I genuinely love. It’s methodical, repetitive, and surprisingly satisfying.

Maybe I was a Montessori child in another life? 🤔😂 A friend recently told me that folding cloth is a classic Montessori activity that helps little ones develop coordination and concentration. Who knew there was a little more to my love of folding fabric than I thought!

Following that question, I thought it might be fun to take you behind the scenes at Modern Stitch Co. and share a little glimpse of my process.

Every Fabric Pull Has a Story...

Hello makers! ✂️🧵
One of my favourite parts of preparing and packing your orders is getting a little glimpse into each maker’s unique aesthetic. Every fabric pull tells a story, and I love wondering what that story will become.

Here are two very different orders I had the pleasure of packing this week.

🌊 Greens & blues: A beautiful collection built around Kona Cotton Solids, with soft greens and blues that have such a calm, peaceful seaside feel.

🎀 Pink & pretty: A gorgeous mix of blushes, pinks, bunnies and strawberries — perhaps intended for for a beautiful baby quilt for a brand-new baby girl. 🐰🍓

Two completely different collections, but both equally beautiful — and each telling its own design story.... I just can’t wait to see what they become! ❤️

🌈 CHAOS & COLOUR 🌈

Allow me a moment to boast a little. 😂

I’m very excited to share that I’ve finished my chaos patchwork sweater — and I’m pretty thrilled with how it came together!

Despite the massive mix of contrasting fabrics, colours and prints, somehow it all works as one wonderfully cohesive piece. I’ve worn it very proudly in public, so I think my chaos quilt theory might actually work.... 👀 Which means a full-size chaos quilt might be in my future 😂

And speaking of colour, I recently packed an order that made me smile from start to finish. What a joyful, vibrant collection of fabrics! I can’t wait to see what it becomes once they’re stitched together. 🌈🧵

As we head into the cooler months and the colours around us become a little more muted, I hope you have a bright and cheerful project planned.
