That time of year again, building between ma natures mood swings. This year, we will be at the CanCast/ Odyssey show, Jäger will be providing booth support with Pro Tackle.

Well we’re well into the fall, water temps are warm for this time of year.. 45+/-. I headed into an area that is normally stacked with bait, pretty much empty. water is still a little warm. Nice thing about the river….. move 10 miles try again…

Winds are getting a bit sporting. 6 oz Jäger out for a drag. Were about 80’ behind the boat. With the current right now. 4oz weight about 20 ahead of the leader. 3.5mph. The bait bouncing with the waves between 17-20’ at this time. Water temp is a little high. Scope is showing a lot of bait moving through the space. We’ll see what the east wind brings.

A slight delay with the post as we were on the road and occupying two booths this weekend… the paradigm here is one of these venders was busier than the other… for those that don’t recognize Shawn Mahar, (Hose Bait) in for a visit before the doors opened on Saturday.
These events don’t happen without a dedicated team… we thank Muskies Canada for hosting this years event.
Now back to the bench to fill a few online orders….

Had a question asked a while back as to why we have not built a Bubblegum coloured bait. We will have a couple of variations of these at the Odyssey for those interested….

Hi folks; its been a short while. Bait building season has been underway for a while now, and I thought we would give you a look at the weight system I have been playing with to get baits a little deeper into the water column. (Additional 3-8oz)
Now I have an assortment of weights from the walleye fishing we do. Red clips simple to use, I picked up a few sets of Eagle Claw clip on weights, (looked cool) both good to use, simple one hand on and off… However, if you have a “rank” muskie on the line, the basic red clip will hold better, regardless of the weight i’m using.
Trolling info for the jäger, 6 oz head, 3.5mph, 80’ behind the boat will get to 14/15’ add 4oz 20’ from the head of the leader. 18’ of depth. Adding 10’ of line out will add another 1/1.5 foot of depth to the bait… the only caveat is negotiating current…

Jr and regular Jäger 3-6oz heads 18” ruler for scale.

The windows that open up to be exploited on the water are few. The winds can be a little more than sporting. As i was heading out the hunters were heading in. 9.9 water-pump decided to freeze up, got it working after a bit, 150 idled along @ a comfortable 2.9. Bait patterning is spotty on traditional sites, but the fish do school up in the darnedest areas. In densities not seen through the summer. No luck on the water yesterday. Just kept the heat buddy handy.
Its Transition time… the Bench has been moved into the house… can’t tie outside… its a dexterity thing in the cold….

We’ll be sending some basic data out to the group…. A lot was learned, not mine to hold. Yours to add to the your bag of angling tricks.
